I am Kachina, I am 15 and I am from the Cheyenne tribe. My name means spirit, or sacred dancer. I try to live up to my name, for when other tribes visit us from other parts of our world, the young women of the tribe (I lead them) perform a tribal welcome, to celebrate the unity of our people.

My father is the chief of our tribe, his name is Paco (eagle), and we live in our wickiup with my mother, Ominotago (beautiful voice), my 18 year-old brother, Alo (spiritual guide), my 14 year-old sister, Galilahi (attractive), and my 5 year-old sister, Nadie (wise).

Our village is made up of around 16 wickiupsand tipi's, and a longhouse where my father holds his tribe conferences trials and such with the other men. None of the women and children are allowed into the longhouse to view the meetings, but my mother has been in on a few occassions, but has been forbidden to speak of them to anyone.

I long to explore Mother nature's world, to visit another tribe, to learn their ways of life, to talk their conversations and such to others. Father says I may do one day, as I am so defiant, though I am not sure whether he was being serious. For now though, I must remain to help the other women of the tribe with cooking (although I rather terrible at that), growing the crops, washing and so on.

Although my father is light hearted most of the time, he is growing impatient with finding a suitor for me, at which is proving tricky. It is not because of me, although I am not quite ready for a husband just yet (although, saying that, my close friend Litonya (darting hummingbird), have spotted a few rather handsome men from a neighbouring tribe down by the river, and they in turn made no effort to show their affections!), no it is my mother. I understand that her name means beautiful voice, but I have heard father expressing that she does not need to show it by turning away every one of my previous suitors. She is ever so picky! If this fussiness continues, I may never find a suitor.....
