PROLOGUE

Once upon a time there dwelled a powerful realm filled with creatures of fantasy. In the center was the town of Luminaria. This is where the species of light dwelled. Good witches, faeries, elves, nymphs, and billions of other creatures settled throughout all of Luminaria.

It had a forceful king, named Rector the Mighty of the Jocasta dynasty. Rector was an angel of light, for only they were permitted to rule. He had a single son of sixteen named Shaddix.

The king was not married however, for Shaddix’s mother had been a good witch who was “passing by”, if you could call it that. She had been there one day and gone the next before any wedding or engagement had even taken place. For the most part, the town adored the king and his son.

Rector was beginning to show visible signs of age. His hair and beard were gray, streaked with the slightest shade of blonde. He had once been shockingly handsome, with pale blonde hair and the biggest eyes of the deepest, darkest green against a face as pale as ivory, which Shaddix had inherited. Rector was average weight and height with wings that were an amazing, flawless white.

On the other hand, Shaddix was lean and tall for his age. Shaddix also had wings, but because of the witch’s blood, he stood out from the rest of his family line, and everybody saw this. His wings were dark grey with shadowed purple streaking through them lightly.

The most unusual characteristic of Shaddix was in fact his hair. Unlike others in his family line, his hair was pale grey with shades of black, blue, and purple running throughout. In the course of the entire line of Jocastas there had only been ones of the fairest heads of hair. Rector was continually scorned for mixing with a witch, good or not. Jocastas had always married faeries to distinguish a certain look among them; light hair, pale skin, and deep, big eyes.

Now Rector was convinced that to contain the family name, Shaddix’s children had to have this appearance. Shaddix would have a grand ball on his seventeenth birthday to meet a gorgeous faerie, which was the classic custom in Luminaria. This would be in exactly one month from the day this story begins….but hear one last word before this tale weaves its words around you.

For every place of light, there is a place of darkness. This town was called Formidulosis. It was to the cold West of Luminaria. It consisted of dark witches and faeries, vampires, werewolves, trolls, and many other dark monsters too warped to even name.

They slept during the day and at night each one awoke from slumber and prowled the lands. Millions of wars had consisted between Luminaria and Formidulosis for years and years. Its king’s name was Vereor the Feared, and he was a fallen angel.

He had long, pitch black hair down to his shoulders, and eyes so dark and piercing they could penetrate right down to your soul. His own Queen had been killed in battle years ago, but together they had produced who everybody thought of as a rather somber child named Collin, who was to be the ruler of the crown when Vereor became too old to rule or somehow perished (for even the immortals have their ways of death).

They were of the Blair family line.

Everybody trembled under the fearsome king’s intense stare and quaked when standing before him. Time and time again had King Vereor waged war to take complete control of Luminaria. Time and time again had his army been defeated. Where this story forms and takes shape, King Vereor had a new plan.

One that could completely diminish Luminaria for eternity….
