I trudged along the worn path, thinking to myself that I must find a new route soon. This one was getting visible to the naked eye. Pushing my red hair out of my eyes, I looked around. The trees towered above me, allowing me to bath in a shower of speckled green sunlight. The sun would be setting soon, I relished the light. I loved this place, it was so peaceful. If I stopped for a moment, I could hear the whispers of life flowing around me, capturing me and taking me away.
But there was no time for that now, I had to continue. Moving along, I silently stepped along my path, feet flashing so fast along the earth that my worn boots were nearly invisible. My arms were limp at my sides, aching to reach out and touch the nature around me.
The trees started to thin, slowly at first, and then all of a sudden I was surrounded by small saplings instead of hundred year old majesties. Good, so I was almost there. Now was the time to stop for a moment and figure out where I was going next. My petite figure stood stock still, eyes closed, feeling the life ebbing around me in whirlwind of senses. A babbling brook sounded off to my right, but the tweets of a robin turned my head to the right.
"This way," She sang to me. "Follow me." I gracefully ran after her, keeping pace with her flitting wings, flying from one tree to the next in a manner of seconds. I knew she was leading me in the right direction, I could feel the power growing stronger.
As the power grew and grew, I slowed to a walk. I knew I would come along to the perfect spot in a minute or too. Any second now...I saw a small clearing ahead, about twenty feet across in a circular shape. But, I was confused, there was something there.
The clearing came into focus and I stepped forwards into it. Someone was here. I spun around to my left and saw two eyes glowing at me from just beyond the clearing. My eyes adjusted and I subconsciously made myself aware that it was twilight, the time of shadows.
Something stepped out into the clearing. It was a he. It...HE blinked a couple of times and took another step forwards. "R-Rae?" He said. "Is that y-you?"
I gasped. I knew that voice. |
