They told me not to trust her, but I liked her. She had such an innocent look, and was so sweet. I loved how her bright blue hair bounced every time she fluttered, and she DID try to cheer me up. But she was a water fairy. Water was unpredictable, no matter the season, and she was just as so. Not to mention, her fairy side gave her a pull to that of her element, causing her to have a longer lifeline than humans.
In short, she was dangerous.
If it had been a water mage I'd befriended, that would have been fine. An earth fairy, and I wouldn't have had any problems. But no. I chose to befriend Addaly.
She tricked me, tricked me completely. At first, I know it was a true friendship, that we liked each other, that we wouldn't use each other. But she used me. I liked being completely human. The powers weren't my fault, or hers. But when I got them, she didn't like me anymore. She was just a power-hungry water fairy.
Fate is a cruel thing. My mind was what did it all. I could move things with my mind - telekinses. What really made Addaly stop liking me was that I could read minds, too. I didn't like that part. The telekinses was one thing, but telepathy? I could intrude on people's private thoughts, and that was horrible.
Right away, Adaly helped me. I liked her even more. With her help, where it would normally take at the very least a year, I got my powers under control in a few months. And then she tricked me.
I was taking a peaceful walk, when I heard Addaly cry out.
"Help! Help! Help!"
I started running. My friend was in trouble! "Addy, keep calling," I exclaimed, "So I can follow your voice!" She continued yelling.
"Maddison! Maddie! I need you!" I could hear shrieks and sounds like barking. I ran faster.
When I finally got to where Addaly was, I saw the most horrible thing ever. Addaly was being hunted. I focused, and made one of the dogs slam against the tree, whispering, "Sorry." But the dog burst into a bunch of water, and Addaly began to laugh.
"Oh, child, I now see your powers are stronger then I thought. Most cannot use telepathy on water, let alone illusions from it," she cackled.
I backed away, knowing what would come next. "I'm not going with you, not ever! Evil water fairy, keep away from me! I'm not coming with you, Addaly, ever!" I knew her last name, but I didn't want to use it. If I said that with her last name, it could be that it would kill her.
"That only works for humans, and you aren't one anymore, not with your magic!" She flew towards me, fast.
"Keep away from me!" I shrieked, ducking down.
In a flash, she was knocked to the ground by a vine. Someone of eath - predictable and kind. I thought a silent thank-you to the person, and was off running. Fairies, brownies, pixies, and the like all need an invitation, such as an open door or window or a mouse hole, to get in your house. We had no mice, and it was cold outside, being the middle of winter. Our door and windows would be closed.
Just in time, I was inside, panting. All I said to my family's bewildered looks was, "You were right. All water fairies do is trickery." |
