Jenna was an average fourteen year old girl living an average life. She was just plain normal. Her father was just the opposite. From the time Jenna was a little girl, her father had always seemed mysterious and apprehensive. He always seemed to be hiding something. Her mother had died in a car accident when Jenna was very young. Her father was distant. It seemed that he kept his distance on purpose, like some enemy may lay in wait at any time watching for weaknesses.
One day when Jenna was ten, she had crept into her father's study. In a glass case was a gold watch. It seemed important to her father, and in the interest of rebelion, she decided to steal the watch. She took it out of the case and turned around to walk out. She stared at the watch intensely. It seemed to have a hypnotising effect. She could not look away. It was like the watch was calling to her. Just then her father walked in and she was released from the watches effect. Her father snatched the watch from her and quickly put it under the glass again. Jenna would never forget the horrified expression on her father's face when he saw her with the watch, or the scolding she recieved later on.
Jenna realised that day what her father was hiding. She did not see the watch again for years.

Lately, Jenna's father had seemed even more cautious. He always rambled about being watched and safety precautions. It was like he actually thought that someone would steel that crusty old watch of his. Jenna knew that was what it was about even if he did not tell her. He had actually started to worry her at times and she almost called the local mental hostpital twice.
In the kitchen one morning..........
JENNA- Dad, you're really starting to worry me with all this business with the watch in
your study. Do you actually think that someone would steel that old thing!?
DAD- How did you know about the watch!?-starts rambling again
J- Well, I still remember that time when I was five, and it's obvious that that's what you're freaking out about.
D- You shouldn't know about that.........
Suddenly there was a knock on the door. Dad answered it and found two armed men standing on the porch.
D- Run!
Then he tossed me the watch. I started running to the study. The two men followed me.
D- Just stare into the watch and it will-uh!
I ran into the study and opened the pocket watch.
J- Uh!! This thing doesn't even work! How is an old watch supposed to save me!!!
Jenna stared into the watch and the hypnotising effect came again. The room started to swirl. The top of the watch looked to be a lady with her arms together. She seemed to be mocking Jenna for falling into her trap. Suddenly, the effect wore off and Jenna looked around and was shocked. She was in New York city but everyone was wearing old timy looking clothes. They were all wearing hoop skirts and tall hats. She turned around and there was a newspaper stand. Only, the date said April 2, 1801....
