The moon shone brightly throughout the sky. Liana watched the empty row boat float on the shining lake before her. The world showed no signs of danger to the city yet. But there was a chance, a slight chance, the danger may be early this year.

"Liana?" She jumped, no one was supposed to know she was here. 'Darn.' She whispered to herself. "Is that you?" He asked, sitting beside her on the park bench. She nodded and looked at him. His eyes shown brightly, his hair glowed unnaturally in the moonlight, and his smile was as wide as ever.

"You shouldn't be here." She whispered to him.

"I know."

"Then leave."

"I had to see you."

"You saw me, now go, before it begins again."

"Liana." He whispered her name so softly she barely caught it. Hot tears were falling down her perfect complexion. He reached over and took her hand in his,"I still love you." She shook her head and yanked her hand away.

"You can't." She was losing her willpower to stop the crying from turning into a sob, every muscle is her body was aching to fight the urge to just say she loved him back. But, she couldn't put his life in danger like that. Not with the world falling apart so fast.

"The sun is coming up." Liana said,"I must go." So she stood and left her once lover, sitting on a park bench, by himself.

**********************************************************************

"I couldn't do it." Liana confessed to her sister, who nodded sympathetically.

"Of course." Her sister said,"You mustn't put someone as powerful as him in the hands of the enemy." Liana stood, then sat as it posed to difficult to stay standing.

"I'll miss him."

"Of course." Her sister replied, then left to run a errand.

Liana looked out of her window. The sun was bright, maybe to bright for a winter day. She grabbed her jacket and ran out the front door. Heading for her favorite place in the world. Her park bench.

********************************************************************** "I knew you'd be here." Liana said sitting next to the old man. He nodded a 'hello' and turned his attention to the newspaper.

"The war is growing more intense, the enemy is getting stronger by the minute." The old man said, his attention never straying from the newspaper. She nodded and looked out over the lake. The sun made a beautiful glowing ripple, almost like someone could just rip out of the lake and be a sun god or goddess.

"It's beautiful." Liana whispered passionately. The old man nodded.

"Liana." She looked away from the lake and looked around. The voice sounded distant and desperate. She stood and walked down towards the lake. Almost as if she was in a trance.

"Liana." It said again, she looked towards the lake, a man was below the surface, watching her, saying her name. Liana pulled off her shoes and brushed her toes on the soft surface of the lake. He looked at her with those pleading soft blue eyes.

"Don't, Liana." A man yelled from behind her. The man she loved as running up, his face horror-striken. Liana's toes were suddenly felling cold, and out of instinct she pulled them out of the water. The trance was broken, but her toes wouldn't come out. Liana looked down at the water man, her mind filled with questions of this force of nature.

"Stop, pull your foot out." Her friend was tugging on her arms now, attempting to pull her free, but any wise man would know, once they got you in the trap, there was no way out.

"You can't go. You may be the only one who can save this war." His voice was cracking and there were tears flowing down his face. The old man was smiling at her. 'That jerk.' Liana thought, he tricked me. And he did it well.

"I'm sorry." She told him, then gave into the trap. She fell backwards into the water.
