Mr.Jam was out of the room for more then a few minutes. The whole day as a matter of fact. As usual I slept through it all and Baby texted Brent those gross text messages her mum would kill her for if she found.
I jolted awake whenever the bell rang shrilly overhead. I glanced sleepily over at Baby who was texting.
"Wake up finally? You sleep like a rock you know. I hit you with twenty pieces of paper." Baby said not looking up from her screen.
I looked down at the floor to see little pieces of wadded up paper surrounding the desk. I rolled my eyes and ignored Baby. She closed her phone and looked at me with a sly smile on her face.
"What? Brent finally agree to having se'x with you?" I asked.
Baby laughed,
"We did that last night stupid. Who's Alicia?" she asked me suddenly.
I stared at her. I knew who Alicia was. Her name was Alicia Hadnot and she was HOT. Alicia was a prep though. I was emo. Hel'l,what was I thinking? It couldn't work and I wasn't going to try. I'd die if Baby found out that I liked her. Or thought about her. Or pictured her in my minds eye without her clothes on (though I had no idea weather she was full or not).
"Is it Hadnot?" Baby asked,her eyes narrowing.
"Why are you asking me this? How the hel'l should I know?" I snapped walking towards the door with my hands in my pocket.
Baby grabbed my arm and stared at me. I couldn't look away from her brown eyes which were wide with worry and surprise.
"Z. Tell me." Baby demanded.
"She's that hot prep who hands out with Allison." I said automatically not able to lie to her.
Baby pursed her lips and let go of my arm.
"How would I know if she was hot?"
"I'm just giving you a description." I said walking out of the door.
"Z! Listen to me," Baby looked scared, "You can't think about her or talk about her. AT ALL."
"Why not?" I demanded.
"Because-" Baby stopped talking as Allison Tree walked around the corner with her little crowd of friends,including Alicia Hadnot.
I felt my pulse quicken and my stomach start to do flips at the sight of her wondrous shape. Her black flowing hair was surrounding her shoulders and bouncing slightly. She was standing next to Allison which showed everyone she knew her best. I let out a sigh and Baby kicked my leg. Allison spotted us and Baby narrowed her eyes.
"Why Zack! Hello there." Allison purred walking towards me.
I sighed,
"Hey Allison."
Allison giggled and stepped closely. Baby stepped in front of me.
"Get lost Tree. Z doesn't need you." Baby hissed her face set.
"Z? Your STILL calling Zack that UNBEARABLE name?" Allison asked with a laugh.
Baby clenched her fists but said nothing,her eyes narrowed begging Allison to say something else. Allison got the message and turned to Alicia who was watching us all with interest.
"Baby,have you met Alicia Hadnot yet?" Allison purred pushing the beautiful Alicia forward.
Alicia looked scared whenever she saw Baby.
"Alli,I don't think-"
"Shut up and do it Alicia!" Allison spat.
"Um...hello there Hope. I was wondering if--"
"Tree can ask Z to that cursed party of hers herself." Baby hissed dangerously.
Alicia backed away.
"I wasn't going to--"
"Well YOU certainly weren't going to ask him for you were you?" Baby spat.
"I--"
"GET LOST!" Baby screeched.
Alicia stood her ground.
"Maybe I was! Zack,would you like to go to Allison's party with me?" Alicia asked looking at me with big brown eyes.
"Okay." I shrugged trying not to let my excitement overwhelm me.
Ya,I sure was a good emo. God.
"Okay. Well...bye then." Alicia said blushing.
She turned and walked away with Baby glaring at her.

"You have a new dent on your truck Z."
I looked up from my shake to see Baby looking out the big glass window we were sitting by at my truck. I leaned back in my both and glanced at the battered up old pickup.
"You know Pa's hobby." I said miming my Pa holding a baseball bat and laughing.
"Why does he hit it?"
"Next best thing to me."
"Why not your mum?"
"Pa can't hit Ma."
"Why?" Baby turned her eyes on me, "He's not afraid to."
"No." I said uncomfortably, "You know how it is though. I guess it's just common sense."
"Your mum is afraid of him!"
"I never said he didn't boss her around."
We grew silent after that. Staring down at our shakes in Dairy Queen watching people come and go.
"Z? Why did you say yes to going to that party with Alicia? She'll just try to get laid by you and--"
"Maybe I WANT to lay her."
Baby stared at me.
"What? You haven't even had practice!"
"She could be my trial."
"Z,that's stupid."
"Baby,that's life."
Baby stared at me for a while then began to play with the straw in her drink.
"Are you sure you want to do that?" Baby asked.
"Ya." I shrugged, "You and Brent going?"
"Of course. It's Tree's party. Brent's always invited even if they aren't dating anymore. I know Tree's just waiting for him to dump me." Baby said with a smile.
"He won't. You've got enough lu'st to keep him satisfied."
"Shut up Z." Baby laughed. |
