The garden is quiet, the winds are whispering
The flowers wave in peaceful grace
They are beautiful, so much more then I
Their colours are bright, luscious
Attracting hungry bees with their sweet perfume
How I hate them
Their perfection is mocking
Their simple beauty cruel
I bend and rip one rose from its stem
If I listen just so,
I can hear its scream
It’s a pretty pearl pink
With a long green stem
Its thorns are harsh brown
And glinting sharp
I smile sickeningly at its pain
I tilt my head and mock it
Mock its agony
Its humiliation
Its everything
Then I draw the flower head across my wrist
The gentleness is brutal, the softness vindictive
And in its wake, blood red petals bloom to the surface
From the pure white stem of my arm
They uncurl to the sun in their simply beauty
They fall from my wrist like confetti
And I smile as the bloody petals fall
Before my hand wraps around the rose head
And I crush it between my fingers
I then turn and walk away,
With a soft, triumphant smile |
