The last line is mildly contradictory in my thinking, but nevermind.

I wish I could step into the pages of a novel,

Experience the dragons’ lair and the hags’ hovel.

I wish I wield magic with confidence and flair,

I wish I touch a princess’ silky and golden hair.

I wish I loose myself in a whirlwind fantasy,

I wish my days would be filled with laughter and ecstasy.

I wish I would live out my days in the rhythm of prose,

But instead I am stuck in reality’s dull flow.

-

I wish magic existed and true love was pure,

I wish we could live merrily and be without flaw.

I wish I could escape the claws of this dimension,

I lose myself in worthwhile, exciting literary fiction.

-

But I cannot. The vibrancy of imagination is beyond my reach,

I cannot grow wings and fly that high, that boundary I cannot breach.

Stuck down here in the darkness of reality, shrouded and alone,

So instead, I loose reality in books and poems and call them my home.
