Emilee didn't feel...sorry. Not all the way. Of course, every time she saw Austin she felt this horrible pain in her chest, but Ben made it better, so wasn't that the point? Austin was never in the same room with her if he could help it. Emilee knew he couldn't stand her anymore--not for the choice she made.
She DESERVES the way he's treating her, but why can't she help but feel like he's being unfair? Didn't he give up his relationship with Callie for her...for their friendship?
She was being selfish-she knew it-yet...he wasn't playing fair. He never had. Oh, all the guilt.
"Triwizard Tournament?" Emilee mouthed the words at Ben.
"Yep," he beamed, "Have you ever SEEN the Goblet of Fire? James Potter has pictures of it, from when his dad was here. It's amazing. His dad was even IN the tournament! He won! Yeah...Harry Potter gave the start up loan for Weasley's Wizard Wheezes. You know Rose...no not Rose Thomas, Rose Weasley, her uncle owns that place. His twin was killed by Death Eater. Ron Weasley, her dad, is amazing. I have his autograph. Did you know hes a huge Chuddly Cannon's fan? I don't know why, their team suucks."
Emilee made a face. She didn't like the Potter's OR the Weasley's. They annoyed her, for some reason, and Lily was a little co'cky. She seemed to believe she was better then everyone else. Then Rose Thomas! Don't even get her STARTED on that girl. Being best friends with a Potter...disgusting.
"You know I don't really like them," Emilee said, "Besides, James graduated LONG ago."
"Last year." Ben muttered.
"Okay, sorry." Emilee said, rolling her eyes.
They walked in silence and Ben took her hand. That was his way of making things up to her...dropping the subject. Emilee wasn't going to let this one go though.
"Have you noticed how close the Potters' and Weasleys' names are? James, Lily, and Albus. Hugo, and ROSE? It's silly. I think Hermione is trying to copy Ginny. I mean really, Lily and Rose? It's obvious that was as close as she could get." Emilee pointed out.
Ben shrugged and kissed her cheek, trying to distract her. It worked...for a few seconds.
"Isn't this Albus's last year?" she asked, as they walked into the Great Hall.
"Mhm." Ben nodded, waving to Jazz across the hall.
"And Lily's in year...?"
"Six."
"So she and Rose will be graduating in a few years. Good riden-"
She stopped talking as the two girls walked up. Rose smiled at Ben who looked quickly away. Lily got an angry look on her face but Rose touched her arm. She looked a little hurt but the two walked away.
"Whats her problem?" Emilee demanded.
"With James gone Rose is a little...upset. She's looking for another boy to hold hands with, till she graduates that is. Nothing much. Just her being a--"
"Don't say it." Emilee muttered.
Ben cut off his speech and smiled at her. She smiled back. They squeezed into a seat next to, unfortunately, Rose and Lily.
Jazz caught her eye, after a long time, and motioned her over. Emilee leaned over and gained Ben's attention, again. He looked away from Rose, relived.
"I'm going over to talk to Jazz. Do you want to come?" she whispered in his ear.
"Do you think she'll let me?" Ben asked quickly.
Emilee shrugged and stood up. She motioned to Ben next to her. Jazz made a face but nodded. Emilee smiled and took Ben's hand. She shot a nasty look at Rose before the two made their way over to Jazz. They sat down on the edge of the bench next to the girl.
"Oh, Emilee, guess what? Have you heard about the Triwizard Tournament?" Jazz asked, eagerly.
"Yeah. Ben and I were talking about it." Emilee nodded.
Ben leaned forward eagerly. Emilee squeezed his hand. It's ridiculous how much he was looking forward to his.
"Well, they're letting fifth years in! Isn't that great? That opens up the play field! It'll be a piece of cake for the seventh years." Jazz beamed.
"They're letting in fifth years? For real?" Ben asked quickly.
"Yep!"
Emilee stared in horror at the two of them. Ben grinned,
"I'm totally signing up."
"I wish I could."
Ben turned to look at Emilee's face. He frowned at the expression he saw...disbelief and sadness.
"You can't," she whispered, "what if you get hurt? Or die like Cedric Diggory did?"
"He wasn't killed by the Tournament, just You-Know-Who."
"He still died."
"Oh come on, Em. I'll be okay."
"Please don't...for me."
Ben measured her expression. She looked really torn. This was something Austin would do to her. Laugh and tell her to relax. Not Ben...he couldn't stand to hurt her, not hurt her more then Austin had. He smiled and kissed her cheek softly again, his arm going around her waist,
"I promise, I won't." |
