A/N: I think I might be doing one more after this. I've pretty much got all the parts planned out in my head. I want have a preface, I'm not very good at writing those and I'm not really going to need an introduction. If I do decide to carry on with Z and Baby, then I'll let you know by at least Saturday. Maybe. It depends if I have the time to write it.

FIVE YEARS LATER

"Daddy! Daddy! Mommy! Mommy!"
Baby gasped sharply as the six year old twins came running towards the car. I reached up and hit a button on the dash board and the backseat door of the van slid open automatically. Aley jumped in first followed by Rich who was right on her tail, yet a little more cautious.
"Look! Look! Isn't it pretty?" Aley demanded, shoving a picture she colored under Baby's nose.
"Yes, baby, it is very pretty." Baby nodded, taking hold of the picture and pushing it back so she could look at it properly.
"Daddy? The door-" Rich sighed.
"Oh. Got it." I smiled, pressing the button again and the door slid closed.
"Thank." Rich smiled at me before sitting down in his seat.
The twins had learned to do the buckles all by themselves at least two years ago. So, we didn't have to put up with the whole buckling and unbuckling process that all the other parents did. Of course they only knew how to do it on their car seats but they would learn how to do it for the regular seats over time.
"Aley, sweetie, you need to sit down." I sighed as Rich buckled himself in.
"Look daddy! Look what I draw!" Aley cried, shoving the picture onto my lap.
"That's very pretty." I nodded, looking down at the business man with purple hair.
"Rich draw too!" Aley told me excitedly, bouncing up and down, her black curls shivering.
It was weird. Aley had randomly got curly hair and now as we watched them both growing up, you could see the real difference between the two of them. Aley was a lot more demanding, and bouncy. While Rich was more quiet, yet still fun all the same. Another odd thing, Rich's hair was slowly turning lighter, as if to turn blond and Aley's eyes were slowly getting lighter as well.
The doctors were at a loss of what was causing it, but it didn't really surprise either one of us.
"Sit down Aley." Baby sighed.
Aley smiled at her before plopping down in the car seat and quickly buckling up. She kept on a full stream of how her day was as I pulled out of the school parking lot. Were all first graders usually this chatty?
"How about you Rich?" I asked cutting across my daughter as she stopped to breathe, "How was your day?"
Rich shrugged,
"Okay. My tummy hurted."
"Really?" Baby asked, turning to look at him with worried eyes.
"Yes."
"Does it still?"
"Yes."
"How bad?"
"Not bad."
Baby let out a sigh of relief. I stopped behind an old Volkswagen at a stop sign, and turned to look at her,
"Should I head up to the hospital anyway?"
"No...it's fine." Baby said, "We can get Amy to look at him anyway. Her and Peggie are coming over."
I nodded. That's right, I had forgotten about that. Baby got herself all wrapped up in the wedding plans for the two women. Which, isn't weird, just odd. I had asked her why and she told me because she didn't get to do any planning for her own wedding...she went to labor at her wedding.
Poor girl.
I smiled to myself as Baby started talking into her cell phone. I could hear Rich and Aley talking to each other quietly in the backseat. I glanced in the rear view mirror to see them holding hands and talking earnestly about something while Baby chattered away to whoever it was that had called her. I turned my attention to the road and turned left, heading towards home...
Our home.
How many more mistakes can we make, I wondered to myself, It can't be many more.
Of course, I knew I was wrong as soon as I thought that. Didn't we have to raise the kids up as teenagers to?
We could get through it though...we had to.
Beside, they'll be well behaved kids. We know all the tricks of how to play hooky.
I smiled to myself, nope these kids were going to school if I had to pull them up there by their ankles.
That would be sort of funny actually.
God, some dad I am.
I still laughed at the thought away. |
