A/N: Sorry for the wait, I have three school projects which I am scrambling to finish. I hope this makes up for it.

"There was a time when I was entirely human, when I would always belong among people like you. But that time has long passed me," Darren began, and I listened intently. "Of course, humans have had their fair share of knowledge about us. But they think it is all a joke. They think we do not exist, they think that we are not waiting in the shadows to kill, to trick, to harm.

"Of course, we are not all the same. Many of us are more than one of the supernatural things you watch movies and read books about. I am merely two of them. Every supernatural thing has a process to become one, and every process is extremely painful.

"What am I? I am a freezeray and a hypnotist. A freezeray is a person that can freeze things; a hypnotist is a person who can hypnotize people. How can I be both? Well I went through one of the processes first, and then another one sometime later.

"Who can give a process? Any one of the supernatural things with the knowledge of how to perform the process can do it. I have never done it, although I've considered it. Only one process for one supernatural thing can be done on one person at once.

"The murder that was committed today was no ordinary murder. I could sense that a supernatural creature had done it. I can also sense that whatever did it is still close. So be careful.

"So there, Hazel. Now you know what I really am." He took a deep breath once he had finished and turned to look at me. I knew he was waiting for an answer. He had not asked it out loud, but I knew that he was asking me a very important question. He was asking me if I could still love him, like in all the books and movies.

He looked anxious because of my silence, so I grabbed his hands and held them in mine. “I will always love you, Darren. I don’t care if you’re a freezeray hypnotist thing. I can’t resist you and the love we share,” I whispered, looking him straight in the eye. Then I leaned up and kissed him.

He did nothing, just let me kiss him for a few moments. Then I pulled away. He looked at me for a few seconds, then leaned down and kissed me. After a little while of just standing there, looking at each other, I took his hand and hummed a song. He understood and we began to dance in the little gazebo.

It was like the Winter Dance, but different in a way. Something had changed. Perhaps it was because our love had been born then, and now it was already blossoming. We were not newly in love, but had been in love for a while.

But it was more pleasant than you can imagine. As we did a small little dance in that gazebo, our love was apparent. It was like always, the fact that Darren wasn’t completely human didn’t matter. Everything would be fine.

At a point, I looked up into his eyes and smiled. He smiled too, and twirled me. That moment felt perfect.

After some time, I realized it must be late. When reality flooded in, the magical spell, the beautiful fantasy, the romantic moment was gone, only a happy memory.

“My parents will be getting worried, we should go,” I said with a sigh.

He looked away. “Of course. You should go home, you don’t want your parents to suppose you got murdered and dial 911,” Darren joked, but there didn’t seem to be any laughter in his voice, or his expression. And for a moment, I felt like I was losing him, like he was fading away. Just for a moment, but it felt so real that I could hardly bring myself to say the words, “See you tomorrow. Bye.”

As I turned away from him, and took a few steps, I began to relax a bit. I was more like the calm, collected Hazel that everyone said I was. For the second time that day I took deep, calming breaths. It helped a little, but perhaps that little was what I needed.

I managed to get myself to think about the murder instead of Darren. The police identified the murdered girl as Aly Watson, a 15-year-old. She was on the volleyball team and usually hung out with other athletic girls. Her friends said that she just went out to get some air at lunch about 45 minutes before I found her.

Who had performed the act of killing her without attracting attention and smothering her, the ground, and the bushes in blood in under 45 minutes? It was quite strange. I remembered that Darren said that he could sense that a supernatural creature had done it.

I continued to walk down the sidewalk, contemplating this. How was I to ever know about what lay before me? Could I have ever guessed that someone would be there, someone who didn’t mean me well?

Probably not. I had no way of knowing until I took another step, and there was a shriek of high-pitched laughter. I had no way of knowing until I looked down to see a corpse on the ground. A corpse completely covered in blood. The corpse of my mother.

A/N: Sorry it's kind of short, the next one will be awesome, I promise.
