A/N: Just wanted to say that you might want to read the prologue first if you haven't yet. Well, enjoy my TDP friends. :]

I was glad to see the one whose love I cannot resist at lunch that day. There was a major test in Spanish, and I was rather uncomfortable. I needed something to get my mind off of "amiego" and "hola".

As I sat down at the lunch table next to Amy, my friend, and across from Darren, my irrestible lover, I knew something was wrong. Darren was staring at his lunch tray, running his spoon through his blob of applesauce. He said nothing as I stared at him. he was obviously keeping something from me.

I turned away from Darren and looked at Amy. "Spanish test was rough, wasn't it?" I commented.

Amy nodded. "I was ready, but the test was hard. I hope I did good. I'm not doing too well in Spanish. I'm not good at it. It's not all my fault, though. Mrs. Primelder is so unfair."

I nodded, but said nothing more on the subject. I wasn't all that interested. Darren was slowly eating his lunch, his eyes still down. I looked down at my own tray. Suddenly I didn't feel hungry.

"I'm not all that hungry. I'm gonna go. See ya later," I told Amy. As I left the lunch table, I caught Darren's eye. I gave him a look that he knew well, then dumped my tray in the garbage and went outside.

There was a bit of a wind blowing outside. As I stood there, I remembered the Winter Dance. I remembered the magical moment with Darren. I loved him so, so much. Why would he choose to keep something from me?

The feeling that something was going to try to tear us apart came to me again then. But who, or what, would want to take us away from each other? I didn't know if I could live life anymore without Darren. Losing him would be like losing half of myself. Together, we were happy. Apart...

I refused to think about it any longer. It hurt too much. I needed Darren. Without him, I would surely never survive.

'I sound like someone from a movie,' I thought. I was just overreacting, that was all. I took deep, calming breaths.

But still, I knew something was wrong. Darren was keeping something from me. Darren, the one I could not resist, the one I loved more than anything or anyone...

I smelled something strange. The scent was familiar, but I couldn't place it. I tried to find out where it was coming from. I slowly took step after step. Yes, the scent was getting stronger. I was close to whatever it was...

I froze. If it was a movie, I'd probably be screaming, but it wasn't a movie. It was real. I just stopped moving and stared at the thick globs of blood that were covering most of the bushes. What I smelled was the strong, repulsive scent of blood.

I wanted to turn. To run. I didn't want to know what was past those bushes. But I made myself take a step past the bushes. It was then that I realized that not only the bushes but the ground was covered in the blood. I held my breath so the smell wouldn't be so bad as I went past those bushes.

What I saw past those bushes made me stop. I was completely frozen with shock. I was immobilized. Past the bushes, among all the blood, was a girl lying on the ground. The girl had long hair that was so caked with blood that you couldn't tell what color it was. Her eyes were open. They stared up at the sky. There was a wrongness about them. They had pure horror within them. And they were glazed over. The rest of the girl's body had blood all over it. The girl was dead.

I turned and sprinted out of the bloody scene and back to the front of the school. I ran inside the building and ran up to the closest teacher. I flailed my arms.

"Mr. Trapinns, there's a dead girl out there! We've got to call the police!" I shouted.

Mr. Trapinns just stood there comprehending my words for a minute, then let me lead him outside. I brought him to the bloody place where the dead girl lay. He took one glance at it and then turned to me. He got a firm grip on my shoulders and looked me straight in the face.

"Hazel, when did you first notice this?" he demanded.

"A few minutes ago," I replied. I was extremely anxious.

Then Mr. Trapinns sent me to go and call the police. I did. After alerting the police I told all the other teachers. They took all the students to the gym. I was ready to join them but Mr. Trapinns kept me so the police could interview me. Once they were done with me they had my parents pick me up just like all the other students.

Once I had calmed myself off I phoned Darren. "Meet me at the gazebo at Fintry Park," I told him. Then I quickly left before my parents could argue.

I was glad when I saw him waiting for me. As usual, there was no one at Fintry Park. It was a perfect location to speak privately. "Hi," I said as I entered the little gazebo.

"Hi," was all he said. He looked anywhere but at me. He was still not telling me something.

"Darren, remember the Winter Dance?" I asked, deciding that I wouldn't ask him directly.

Finally, he turned to look at me. "I'll never forget," he whispered.

"Remember how we seemed to connect our worlds that night? Remember how it seemed like neither of us would ever or could ever let go?" I asked him.

"Yes, yes," he said. His eyes never strayed from me now.

"Remember how it felt like neither of us would ever keep something from the other?" I asked, obviously hinting something.

He turned away from me and sighed. "Yes. So you guessed," he whispered.

I looked him straight in the eye. "I didn't guess, I knew. I love you so much Daren. You can tell me anything," I told him.

"I know," he replied.

I grabbed his hands. and held them in mine. "Tell me," I said. He nodded, and opened his mouth to begin.

A/N: I hope you enjoyed the first part. I left a bit of a cliffy. I bet you wonder what he's going to say. Part two is coming soon, so soon you may find out...
