Darcy was silent as Rose excitedly told her and Al about Tom asking me out, as though deep in thought. For some reason (and I have no clue why seeing as Tom Shaklebolt is one of the hottest guys to EVER pass through Hogwarts) I didn’t seem as excited about the fact that I was going out with him as I was when he originally asked me. I certainly wasn’t nearly as excited about it as Rose was, and I was the one dating him!

“…and then she said yes! Isn’t that romantic?!” Rose finished, beaming at me.

“So romantic I might just hurl!” Al muttered, causing me and Darcy to burst out laughing and for Rose to look deeply offended.

“AND he kissed her when he said goodbye-” she retorted, hurt.

“On the hand?” Al sniggered.

“Oh peg it, smelly!” she said, shot back, taking her wand and flicking it. A clothes peg shot out the end and fastened itself over Al’s mouth, causing me and Darcy to curl up in fresh fits of laughter.

“Anyway, before I was RUDELY interrupted!” Rose said, shooting Al a venomous look, “don’t they make the cutest couple ever?” Darcy and I looked at each other, laughter ceasing immediately. I dropped my gaze, looking at Rose and returning her grin quite half-heartedly. I had to get away; Darcy’s look was making me feel extremely uncomfortable. It was the look she always gave me when I’d made a decision which we both knew was a stupid one, even if I didn’t admit to it. Faking a modest yawn, I got to my feet.

“Well guys, I’m gonna turn in. I’ll see you all in the morning.” Rose smiled happily at me.

“Alright, see you tomorrow Morgan!” I forced yet another half smile and retreated. As I hurried away I heard a muffled cry coming from Al, and smiled as Rose sighed.

“Come here stupid, I’ll get it off – it might hurt a bit…..joke okay, joke!” I reached the drafty spiral staircase that led to the girl’s dormitories and leant against the cool stone wall. I needed to be alone, away from the hustle and bustle of the common room, so that I could sort of all the confusing thoughts pressing in on my brain. There was movement at the foot of the stairs; not wanting to interact with anyone at this point in time, I hurried up the last few stairs to my dormitory door and pushed it open. I was at my bedside table when the door opened again, causing me to groan silently in frustration.

“Morgan?” I stayed where I was as Darcy closed the oak door behind her.

“Morgan,” Darcy was now leaning against my four poster, arms crossed across her chest and a very concerned look on her olive face. I turned around, smiling again; my cheeks were aching with all the effort I had to put in!

“I’m tired! I just need an early night; I’ll be-” she cut across me.

“Morgan, why did you say yes to Tom? You can’t have forgotten what happened last year, why-”

“I don’t need to clarify everything I do to you!” I said back a bit too loudly.

“But you haven’t said anything about liking him again! Not to me, not to Rose, not to Al, not to anyone!” She retorted back even louder.

“I don’t have to tell you lot everything, do I! Jes.us Ch.rist, Darcy, I’m 16!” I yelled, striding past her to the bathroom to throw open the door. Darcy followed me.

“But you still do though! Hel.l, don’t try and bluff, Morgan; we’ve been friends for too long!” She retorted, grabbing my arm as I went to enter the bathroom. I looked into her green eyes, that all-knowing face, and felt my barriers put up to guard me from such confrontations literally melt away. I walked into the bathroom and plonked myself heavily down on the toilet seat.

“I don’t know why I said yes.” Darcy walked over to me and knelt down in front of me. I bowed my head. “It’s just that he was just like he was when I first met him…..you know, sweet, flattering....and I just thought back to how we were when we first got together, and, I dunno, the answer just slipped out before I had really even thought about what I was saying. He was just so-”

“-Sweet and gorgeous and as sly as ever?!” Darcy interjected, shaking her head. “You haven’t changed in your utter naivety! You’re leading him on – I never thought I’d hear myself say that! – and that’s something I’d expect the school broomstick to do!” I smirked slightly.

“You’re NOT talking about Elouise Lambert at all, are you?!” I laughed sarcastically. Darcy pulled a face and rolled her eyes Rose-style, making me laugh out loud.

“Seriously though,” she said, her laughter dying away, “think about it; sleep on it if you have to. Think about how you really feel.” I looked down at my hands and nodded. It was going to be long night....
