“I need a drink!” Rose shouted in my ear as the dance floor was occupied by even more partygoers. “And I can’t stand this song!” I nodded vigorously in agreement; my throat felt raw from the lack of liquid I’d drunk. As swiftly as we could we made our way through the ever growing crowd to the outskirts of the room where a long illuminated bar ran the length of the wall; this too was quite crowded.

“I’ll wait here,” I said to her as I glanced around. “I’ll find a table or something, okay?”

“What d’you want?” she asked.

“Whatever you’re having,” I replied simply. She nodded before turning and disappearing into the nearest huddle of people. Turning away from the spot where she’d just disappeared I moved swiftly away from the crowd, scoping the outskirts of the room for an empty table...but finding none. As my eyes skimmed over the many people around me I noticed, for the first time this evening, a set of thin oak double doors that stood slightly open on the opposite wall, allowing a gentle breeze to circulate the room. The sudden feel of it caressing my hot face made me shiver; the heat emitting from the mass of bodies packed together felt like a furnace compared to this seemingly icy blast. Making my way cautiously across the room I hesitated at the opening, something to the right catching my eye. Peering into a gloomy secluded corner of the room my mouth fell open as I made out the figures of Al and Darcy almost melted into one in an almost violent embrace. I grinned; Rose would be hooting with glee if she could see this!

I turned back to the door in front of me, hesitation consuming me and overshadowing my momentary feeling of amusement. I peered through the sizable opening and into the area beyond, but apart from a faint glittering from an unknown source, the quiet splashing of water and the same gentle breeze dancing on my face I couldn’t make out anything else. My curiosity got the better of me; taking a deep breath of the breeze I slipped through the door.

The atmosphere could not have been more different.

I found myself standing, a little overwhelmed, on a vast balcony that, I could now see, overlooked the sprawling grounds of Hogwarts. The lights that I’d seen flickering were in fact hundreds of glowing fireflies that were hovering just over lines of 6 feet high hedges the separated the edges of the balcony into small private courtyards. Straight ahead of me and rising 10 feet into the air was a magnificent fountain including a statue of what could only be Aphrodite. out of whose skyward raised hand spouted a billowing plume of water that pattering gracefully into the shallow pool beneath her feet.

I walked forwards, eyes fixed on the statue in wonder as I passed, and after a short walk – the balcony was that big! – reached the edge of the balcony. The fountain was so great that it shielded me from the doors that led back into the Room of Requirement. I leant against the stone railing and looked out over the lightly undulating grounds that sloped down to the black sheet that was the Black Lake. I stood there, almost in a trance, marvelling at the newly illuminated beauty of the scenery that I had inhabited for so long yet had never fully appreciated-

“Like the view?”came a familiar voice from just behind me. I started in surprise and whipped around to face the newcomer, but my instincts told me that I already knew who it was.

“Sorry,” James added hastily before I could speak – which was probably a good thing as I snapped out of my previous trance-like state – running a hand through his hair nervously. The anxious look on his face made me laugh, much, apparently, to his surprise, and I smiled as I leaned back against the cool stone.

“Don’t look so worried; I’m not about to bite your head off!” I replied, the laughter still in my voice and with a smile on my face which he saw instantly.

“Wow, aren’t we in a merry mood tonight!” he teased. My smile turned instantly to a smirk.

“Don’t be so sure Potter!” I replied warningly, turning back to the view. “And,” I continued, my voice softening as I looked out across the moonlit grounds, “I don’t just like it.” Out of the corner of my right eye, I saw him return my smile as he too looked out into the night. We were silent for a while, enjoying this moment. Or rather I’m pretty sure he was, I was trying to focus on keeping my thoughts on the here and now and not drop my guard; finally I was able to bring myself to speak.

“D’you think they can see us up here? I mean, Hagrid must be able to see the lights-” James answered my obvious unfinished question.

“It’s part of the Room of Requirement you idiot, of course they won’t be able to see it! I made sure that no-one would be able to see it anyway when I came in here this morning.”

“But-” James sighed, still smiling.

“Don’t always have to ask all of your endless questions Morgan. Just enjoy the moment, you won’t see a view like this very often.”

“But-”

“Morgan!” he cut in, laughing. I laughed too, although stupidly, slightly embarrassed at him finding one of my flaws.

“Sorry,” I mumbled, turning away. I took in the vast splendour of the fountain, and almost at once a question popped into my head, burning to be released. I turned back to find James staring intently at me.

“What’s wrong?” we both said together. We both laughed slightly as I looked away, embarrassed again.

“You first,” he said, ducking his head to look at me. I paused, glancing at him and seeing his shy smile, and my question rolled out before I could stop it.

“I was just wondering why you’re not in there grinding with Elouise Lambert this very moment?” I asked, trying to ignore the tiny bubbles of some unexplained feeling that erupted when I said her name. “Have you seen her tonight? Looking as *available*as ever.” I exhaled sharply before turning to face the grounds again, looking down so as to avoid his gaze. He turned to the grounds as well but kept looking at me.

“Well, if you must know, she asked me to sleep with her tonight but I turned her down,” he said very matter-of-factly, ignoring my scoffs of disbelief. “I told her that she wasn’t my type. She’s pretty, yeah, but I can think of so many girls that are so much prettier and one girl in particular who I think’s absolutely beautiful. And she’s not very interesting; all she wants to talk about is me and her.” He sighed. “It gets very boring VERY quickly.” I laughed at that, the mysterious bubbles disappearing. I turned back to find him still looking at me intently.

“Come on then,” I said in mock boredom. “What’s wrong?” There was a long pause.

“James?” I prompted. James’ face was working slightly as he evidently tried to find the right words to voice his thoughts.

“I just – well...it’s – oh god, um...”

“Spit it out love,” I sighed, a mocking look forming on my face. James’ expression suddenly hardened; a silence, then...

“Morgan, why the he.ll are you still going out with Tom?!”

Darcy and Albus are very, very naughty.

And quite a way to end a part I must say.

James seems..nicer at this moment.

I wonder why I'm the only one that has yet read 13 and 14.

Hmm.

Keep me updated, love.
