A/N: Part 7. It's rather awkward and uneventful, but enjoy.

Part 7

I looked up from the page to where Harry Potter was sitting ignoring all of the staring and sneering faces. I saw that his bright green eyes were directed toward the Hufflepuff table, at the same boy whose picture had been put in the article.

Chris Wood.

I saw Chris turn and look back at Harry, his gaze challenging. He had a star-shaped scar on his forehead, and his eyes were a pale green. I remembered the sentence from the interview. ‘Yes, it has crossed my mind, and I think that if Potter has a wink of sense he better sleep with one eye open.’ It was obviously a quite true statement.

Harry turned from Chris’s glare, his gaze flickering to me. I quickly looked down, and turned away from him. Finishing my breakfast, I got up and left the Great Hall, heading toward my first class, which was Potions. I didn’t even care that Draco and Crabbe were still having breakfast, or that I was going to be early.

Suddenly, I heard the thud of footsteps behind me, and turned to see Harry Potter catching up to me. Halting, I wondered if I should try and escape the confrontation I knew was about to occur, then decided that it would be pointless. I waited as Harry came up until he was two feet away from me. He too was holding his books.

Since he hadn’t said anything yet, I spoke. “Why are you heading to the dungeons?”

“I’m going to Potions. It’s Slytherins and Gryffindors, remember?”

“Yeah,” I mumbled. Of course it was.

He remained silent, just staring at me. Searching for something in my uncomfortable expression…?

“You made the Daily Prophet,” I finally choked out, avoiding his gaze.

“Don’t remind me, everyone else already is.”

And I…said nothing. What could I say? That I was sorry? That I didn’t believe it? If I had said either of those things I wouldn’t be lying, yet I wouldn’t be telling any great truth either.

“You’re friends with Malfoy,” he finally stated flatly. His gaze was somewhat cold, penetrating. I felt myself shrinking under it.

“Not very willingly,” I said in response, daring a glance at him. He didn’t appear angry…just undeniably hostile.

He didn’t reply. What? Angry? No…he just looked lost for words. But, at last, he said, “See you,” and headed off to Potions.

Breathing a sigh of relief, I followed, keeping a good distance.

Potions was just as usual. Professor Snape docked points from Gryffindor at every chance he got, and Draco smirked and mocked Harry Potter. The only thing different was that Harry was constantly staring at me, and once the red-haired boy sitting next to him, Ron Weasley, followed his gaze and stared at me too. I ignored it.

The rest of the day also went by with hardly anything out of the ordinary, and I soon found myself in the Slytherin common room, finishing our Potions assignment. I had, through my years at Hogwarts, been getting good grades in Potions, and was somewhat good in the class. Of course, I was always doing well in most of my classes. I had been making sure of that for several years now.

I soon finished the assignment and went up to the boys’ dormitory. Draco looked like he really wanted to brag to someone about something, but I didn’t go up and talk with him. I hadn’t talked to him since breakfast, and I didn’t really plan to.

But, as usual, he came up to me anyway. “My father got me a Firebolt 1001,” he boasted. “It arrived with the mail late this morning, shortly after you left breakfast.”

“Why did your dad get you a Firebolt 1001?” I asked.

“Slytherin is having Quidditch tryouts tomorrow, and I am leading them,” he replied.

Immediately, I became interested. “Quidditch tryouts? For what positions?”

“Chaser and keeper. Beth and Kim Osley were forced to quit the team by their parents for some bogus reason,” he replied.

As Draco went off to boast to someone else, all I could think of was that finally the Slytherin Quidditch team had an open chaser position. And tomorrow they were holding tryouts.

My sleep was filled with dreams about the Quidditch tryouts being held the next day.

(To be continued...)
