A/N: Ok, here's part 3. Sorry it is kind of short.

p.s. I think I have got a case of writer's block now. I already have up to part 7 written, though (I wrote this part several days ago), so at least I can be releasing parts even if I don't really have the heart to write them at the moment (I tried writing part 8 today and it didn't go so well...). It might just be for today though.

Part 3

I peered over the side of the boat, gazing down into the dark blue depths of the lake below us. Draco was telling Crabbe and Goyle about something or other that his father had accomplished at his job in the Ministry. I wasn’t listening. I had grown rather tired of Draco and his chatter, and I greatly regretted agreeing to him that we were friends.

But perhaps being friends with Draco would prove to be helpful. He obviously knew more about Hogwarts than I did. Seeing as I and the rest of my family were purebloods, Draco was obviously surprised by my lack of knowledge about the school. The reason for this, though I had yet to tell him, was that my mother was always working in the Ministry at her job in the Department of Mysteries, and my father was a busy Auror. Neither of them spent much time at home these days, and in the past few months they had been even busier.

I came from my thoughts as our boat reached the other side of the lake, bumping against the bank. The paddling of the oars had ceased, and now every boat was attaching itself to the bank. We all got out, and Hagrid led us across the front of the grounds to the giant doors that were the front entrance to Hogwarts. The magnificent castle got closer and closer with each step.

“Now, keep follerin’ me and don’ git lost,” Hagrid told us as he muttered something under his breath and the doors opened up. We followed Hagrid into the castle that was Hogwarts, and across one hall to a set of tall doors. The doors swung open as we approached, our feet clomping against the marble floor. Standing behind them was a tall, older woman. She was wearing round spectacles and her hair was tied up in a bun.

“I’ll take them from here, Hagrid,” the woman told Hagrid, who then nodded to her and turned, vanishing down a long corridor. Turning to all of us first years, the woman then spoke. “I am Professor McGonagall, professor of transfiguration and deputy headmistress here at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Now, as you may know, there are four houses at Hogwarts: Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, and Slytherin. In a few moments the Sorting Ceremony will begin, and you will each be sorted into the house that suits you best. Now, while you are here at Hogwarts, your house will be like your family. You will eat meals at your house’s table, sleep in the correct dormitory of your house, and spend your free time in your house’s common room. Now, I want you to all form a neat, orderly line according to alphabetical order. The Sorting Ceremony will soon begin.” Having said that, Professor McGonagall turned on her heel and headed off down the same corridor Hagrid had.

We all started to form a line. Then, suddenly, Draco noticed a black-haired boy with bright green eyes and a lightning bolt-shaped scar on his forehead standing near the front of the crowd of first years. The boy was talking to a red-haired boy standing beside him. “Well, if it isn’t Harry Potter,” Draco stated, walking up to the boy, who looked somewhat like me. Crabbe and Goyle followed Draco, though I stayed back. I didn’t like the looks of this.

I watched as Draco confronted the boy, who ended up glaring at him. Professor McGonagall came up and Draco walked away from Harry Potter, Crabbe and Goyle close behind him.

“The rest of the school is ready for you,” she announced, and opened the doors at the end of the hall. Immediately, we followed her past the doors in a line according to alphabetical order, which meant that I was just in front of the famous Harry Potter.

We were led into a gigantic room, which my mother had told me was called the Great Hall. Four tables of staring students stood in the room, along with the Head Table of teachers and Headmaster Dumbledore at the front of the room. The front of the line stopped in front of a stool with an old, wrinkled black hat sitting upon it. Standing next to it was Professor McGonagall, who held a scroll with the names of all of the first years.

As the names of first years were called out, I watched them walk up to the stool and sit upon it. Professor McGonagall would place the Sorting Hat on their head, and it would call out what house they were in. I watched as Crabbe and Goyle got in Slytherin, and several other first years were sorted into different houses.

“Malfoy, Draco,” Professor McGonagall was soon calling out. I watched as Draco walked up to the stool and sat on it, smirking. The hat was barely on his head before it called out, “SLYTHERIN!” Grinning, Draco rushed off to the Slytherin table to join Crabbe and Goyle.

I watched as several students were called after that, knowing that with every first year sorted they were getting closer to Postely. And, suddenly I felt my nerves gripping me as Professor McGonagall opened her mouth to call out the next name. I knew what was coming next.

“Postely, Zack!”
