Freaky Franken-Fish From Frankfort

By Buffy Andrews.

Jonathon Rand inspired me to write this book. J It’s a little like a Chiller book. J

Hi. My name is Buffy Andrews . I’m a brown haired girl with deep blue eyes and this is the story of the scariest thing that ever happened to me in my life…

Chapter One

One bright and sunny May day, my friends, Grace and Dylan and I were playing outside. We live in Kentucky and we live by a lake that most people don’t know- Shaky Lakey. Well, it’s really Shaky Lake but that’s it’s nick-name. “Hey, Haylee. We need to practice the Hoedown Throw-down for the talent show for Mother’s Day!” “You’re probably right, Dylan.” I said, nodding. I walked over to the swing-set and got on a swing. Dylan and Grace both got on swings too. We practiced a song we were doing for a talent show in school. “Boom boom clap. Boom de clap de clap.” We started out with that and finished the song very good. I was a little nervous about singing in front of about twelve or more people. But, it was fine because I was going to be with my best friends. “Hey, why don’t we go to Shaky Lakey to practice and play in the sand?” Grace suggested. “Ok. Good idea.” Dylan said. We were all excited. We got on our bikes and rode Butternut Trail to Shaky Lake. Butternut Trail is a biking route that we take to Shaky Lake sometimes. “When are we going to get there? It’s taking longer than usual.” I thought. “Hey, Grace. Do you think we should let Haylee announce the special thing in the beginning or should I?” “You.” Grace said immediately with a giggle. I giggled a little too. I pictured Dylan talking like a cowboy. “Dylan, you do know you have to wear cowboy clothes right?” I teased with a sly grin. “Well…Uh….Sure…Heh heh…” We were all in an eerie silence for a while. Then, we burst out laughing. Then, we all crashed bikes and ended up on top of each other like a Bike Sandwich with some Haylee, Dylan, and Grace. We were in pain from our heavy bikes landing on us but we laughed at the silly thought. Then, we realized that we had arrived at Shaky Lake. We parked our bikes in a bike rack. We had our bathing suits on underneath our clothes and it was surprisingly warm enough for a swim, so we forgot practicing for the important school project and went into the water. I drifted out further and further. I had fun though. Soon, I wouldn’t be having fun… Actually, no one would be having fun…Except for the freakish creature that tried swallowing me whole!

Chapter Two

“Dylan! Grace! Come out further with me! It’s pretty nice out here!” I screamed, as I waved at my friends, who were close to the shore. They were pretty smart and I’m glad they didn’t come out as far as myself. Suddenly, something grabbed hold of my leg and I went under the water. I struggled to pull myself back up to the surface and barely made it up for oxygen. Whatever had my leg had a pretty tight grasp. “DYLAN! GRACE! HELP!” I screamed before going down again. Grace thought I was joking. But, Dylan knew I was serious and went out to help me. Suddenly, I popped out of the water again and then something pulled me back under with great force and power. Then, Dylan arrived to the area I was in. “Dylan! Just leave me here! Save yourself!” I said while I was up. Dylan was worried and grabbed my arms and pulled. “No! You’re one of my BEST friends! I could never let something so awful happen to you!” Dylan said. He sounded like he cared a lot. I kicked and kicked at what was grasping my leg. Then, when I kicked, I felt something scaly and slimy. Then, I heard an ear-piercing screech from under the water. A monstrous fish-like creature swam up to the surface a little bit and I screamed. Grace swam over and helped Dylan get me back to shore. I was so scared. I had cut my foot when I kicked the creature and there was a little pool of blood where the creature and Dylan had had a tug of war over me. I coughed up some water when we got to shore. “Haylee! Are you ok?” Grace asked with eagerness. “Yeah. I think so. Do either of you guys know what that freak-show was?” I said with fright in my voice. “Nope.” Dylan said. “Well not exactly but it looked sort of like a green fish-like creature-except bigger and scarier-and WAY more vicious!” Grace said in a shaky voice. “Shouldn’t we call the police or something? That thing could hurt someone!” I cried. “Haylee. It did! Look at your leg.” Dylan cried out. I did and I was shocked to see I was bleeding. And, weird enough, it had glowing green goo on it. “Look at the green!” I said. No one heard me though. “And besides, Haylee. The police would think we were nuts or that it was a prank call or something.” Grace said. “Good point.” I said with a sigh. When I arrived home, I changed into dry clothes. We all changed. I sighed. “We didn’t even get to practice because of that stupid fish thing.” I complained. Plus, my leg hurt. My mom came into the room. “Oh my- Haylee? What happened???” My mom ran over to me. “Uh…” I said. I mouthed to Dylan and Grace, “Should I tell her?” Grace did the sign that means no and Dylan said yes. So, I told her. I told her about the creature. I told her how we went to Shaky Lake. “Well, the monster fish- That is pretty hard to believe. But, I believe you went to Shaky Lake. And, that you kicked something that cut you. But, a monster fish? You need to write these things down into a book, honey. Want some ice for that cut?” Mom said with a laugh. “Nah. I’m good. I could use some orange juice for my friends and I though…” I said. Grace and Dylan sat next to me. “Grace, you were right. People do think we’re making this up. But we really saw it! It was really there! I hope we never run into it again.” I said.

“Me too.” Grace said. We went outside and back to the lake after drinking some orange juice. “Whoa! Guys look at this!” I exclaimed. I saw a glowing green goo across the shoreline and it lead to the KNA. We needed to find out for sure if that’s where the goo was coming from and….if it was the same goo I got from the creepy fish…

Chapter Three

After a few days, Dylan and Grace were able to come over again. “Want to go to the KNA?” I asked them. “Sure. It’s not like we have much else to do anyway.” Grace said. “Yeah. We have nothing else to really do.” Dylan said. The KNA is Kentucky’s National Aquarium. “Mom! We’re going to the KNA! Be back in a couple hours for lunch! Bye!” I said, slamming the door. We arrived about ten minutes later on our bikes. Suddenly, a short, plump, and sly looking man entered the building. “We’d better go see if we can go in.” Grace said. “Ok.” I said. When we got to the door, it said closed. “Do we have to sneak in?” I said with a gulp. “ Maybe.” Dylan said. “We’ll do it for the sake of Frankfort.” I said, putting my hand over my heart. We all quietly giggled. We broke the vent open and climbed through. The goo was inside there, and so was about 3 feet of water. We crawled through into a secret room that was mostly water! The whole bottom half, which was about 3 feet of water, had the strange goo in it. “And now, John, we shall press the RELEASE button and release our evil and devilish Franken-fish into Shaky Lake and lakes everywhere in Kentucky!” Laughed an unknown voice. “Who’s that?” Grace asked aloud. Dylan and I both put one hand over her mouth. Many of the creatures were enslaved by the unknown person. His name wasn’t Unknown Person. It was Professor Heinz. We all gasped. “PROFESSOR HEINZ?” Grace shouted. “Shush!” Dylan whispered to her. Heinz turned toward us. “My son, Johnny. You shall be an evil genius like I.” He said to his poor non-evil son. John frowned. Dylan, Grace, and I were all shocked and horrified at the giant machine that held many so called Franken-Fish. I shivered. Then, before Heinz saw, I motioned for us to crawl out of the vent. Dylan and Grace nodded and we left. “Holy mackerel! We need to foil his evil plans! Call the cops!” Grace cried. “NO! HE COULD HURT US IF WE DO THAT!!!!” I shrieked. I pushed my hair back. Soon, I saw that weird goo and a microscope in an odd room with a door that was unlocked. I tiptoed in and looked with the microscope at the familiar goo. That goo from the Franken-Fish was the same goo from my cut on my foot! Chills ran down my back. Soon, the freakish monsters from Shaky Lake would be able to go on land and Dylan, Grace, and I would be the first victims…

Chapter Four

The next day, we met up at a cool park. I sat on a swing, along with Dylan and Grace. “Hey!” “Hi!” “Aloha!” Dylan said Aloha and we laughed. “This isn’t Hawaii, Dylan!” I told him with a little laugh. “Now let’s be serious!” Grace started. “We need to find Heinz.” We all laughed at the silly name. “What an odd place to have a demonic fish factory!” Dylan said. “I wonder why they made that part of the KNA.” I wondered aloud, wind blowing in my hair. “It’s too early to go back to the KNA and I don’t think I can sneak in anymore! It’s just-just-just too risky! I don’t want to be attacked by another Franken-Fish!” Grace said with tears in her blue eyes. “Good point again Grace. But, we need to stop Professor Heinz!” I said with a tiny giggle. “Yeah. Maybe we can go in when-” Dylan started. “No. If we go in when it’s open, that door will be locked and he won’t be experimenting any more! We have to sneak in again!” I said, having a good point. “Yeah. You’re right. Even if we get hurt, at least it’s not all of Kentucky.” Grace said. “What? WE HAVE TO GET HURT???” Dylan panicked. “No. No! We might! That’s what Grace is saying, right Grace?” I explained to Dylan. “Yeah. Pretty much.” She said. “Ok. Good. We understand. Right Dylan?” I asked. “Yep.” Suddenly, a growl from behind a shrub at the park came. I shivered. Suddenly, a Franken-Fish was grabbing at our feet! “AH!!!” We all screeched. The Franken-Fish was on land! It was under, behind, and in front of the swings trying to grab us! Soon, more jumped out from behind bushes and shrubs. “RUN EVERYONE!!” I screamed. Suddenly, I heard laughing. I jumped off the swing and went to the laughing bush. Suddenly, Sarah popped out. “You guys are funny! I found these fakes at Wal-Mart!” She laughed. “It’s not funny! We have already gotten attacked by a real one once!” I cried. “Oh whatever! They don’t exist!” Sarah said. Sarah was wrong though. And pretty soon, she’d wish she’d never come to the park at all that day…

Chapter Five

“Sarah! That really wasn’t funny!” Grace yelled. “Yeah. It was mean! We were freaked out!” Dylan said. “Sorry. I wanted to get a laugh.” Sarah said. That’s o-” I said. Suddenly, another bush rustled. “What now? Your other friends are going to scare us too? Well it’s not working!” I said. “Uh….I don’t have any other friends with me….” Sarah said quietly. “Oh…Then, those are rea-” I didn’t finish my sentence. “Hey guys?” I asked. “Yeah?” They said in a scared voice. “RUN!” I screamed at the top of my lungs. “Now that-that’s the best idea I’ve heard all week!” Grace said. We ran and ran. I turned my head to see…A Franken-Fish chasing us! It really could go on land! “RUN TO THE KNA!!!” I screamed. “OK, HAYLEE!” Dylan and Grace screeched. My head was still turned and then….I tripped over my shoe laces! “Ow! NO!!!!!” I screamed. “HAYLEE! DON’T MOVE! I DON’T THINK HE SEES YOU!” Grace screamed. “DON’T SAY ANYTHING!” Dylan screamed. I mouthed “Ok” to them and was motionless until the Franken-Fish was at least ten feet away. Dylan and Grace ran back over to me. Luckily, we were at the KNA. “You ok?” Grace and Dylan asked. “Yeah. Ow. I hit my head.” I said, rubbing my head. “Look where we are! The KNA!” Dylan screamed quietly, and pointed at the building. There was glowing green goo all over. Soon, we’d find out why…

Chapter Six

We looked all around for Franken-Fish but there weren’t any. “Why is there all of this goo?” Dylan wondered aloud. “Why do ya think?” Grace said. “There are more Franken-Fish around?” I asked with a gulp. “Probably.” Grace said. She was nervous. I was too and I could tell Dylan was scared and nervous too. “Ready to go in?” I asked. “I guess so.” Dylan said. So, we snuck in again. We went through the vent and out the vent. “Ah. I see we’ve got some visitors, aye?” Heinz asked with a devilish grin on his face. Our faces all turned pale. “Uh. Meow?” Dylan said. “Nice one!” I told Dylan sarcastically. “Sorry.” He whispered in a hoarse voice. “Come out already! I know you’re here!” He screeched. “Great going, Dylan!” Grace shouted. “Oh, we have a Dylan here?” Heinz rubbed his chin. “Perfect. Just in time for little Frankie’s dinner. MWA HA HA HA!!” He screamed. “Dad! No! Please don’t harm anyone!” John cried. “I WILL DO WHAT I WANT! I OWN THE KNA!!!! AND NO ONE CAN STOP ME!” He yelled. I made the mistake of saying, “Hey! Don’t treat your own son like that! It’s not fair!” I stood up and so did Grace and Dylan. “Yeah.” “Mmm hmm.” Grace and Dylan said. “Now let’s fight this freak and stop the fish from being freed into Shaky Lake!” I cried. Suddenly, an uncontrollable laughter burst out between the three of us. “Heinz? HA HAAAA!” I laughed so hard that there were literally tears running down my cheeks! “Hey Heinz! You have the stupidest name in history! HAAAA!!!” Dylan and Grace laughed. “HAAA!” We all laughed. We shouldn’t have laughed though because then, Heinz wouldn’t have harmed us…

Chapter Seven

“You won’t be laughing for long!” He screamed! Suddenly, the vents closed and the water rose to waist high. Then, we pressed RELEASE! “NO! PLEASE NO!!” I screamed. Suddenly, Franken-Fish began swimming toward us. We were cornered and we had nowhere to run or hide. Then, I saw a door. It was jammed! It wasn’t fully closed. “GUYS! HURRY! TO THAT DOOR!” I pointed at the door and we all ran to the door. It was just big enough for us to fit out. We ducked and walked out…It was safer inside…

Chapter Eight

For a couple seconds, it was peaceful. Then, a growl came from behind bushes and from in a pond of water. There was a barbed wire fence around us, too. “How are we going to get outta this one?” I asked. “Not very easily.” Dylan said quietly. “I know now! Climb over the fence!” I screamed. Franken-Fish were popping out of bushes and ponds so we had to go fast. “Hurry, guys! Climb!” I screamed. We jumped onto the fence and started climbing. Then, something grabbed Sarah’s leg. “HELP! IT GOT ME!” She cried. Tears formed in her eyes. She kicked and kicked and screamed and cried. Dylan and I were already on the other side, so I told Dylan to wait and I climbed back up the fence a little. I took off my shoes and threw them at the Franken-Fish that were biting Sarah. It let go and I grabbed Sarah. “Are you ok?” Dylan and I asked her after we carried her about three feet from the KNA. “Yeah. I’m fine now. Whoa! Glowing green goo!” She cried out. I saw her point at her leg, which had glowing green goo. “Weird. I had the goo when I was attacked!” I said. Dylan gasped. “Maybe that Heinz dude is an alien or something!” Dylan said with a shiver. “I doubt it but it’s possible.” Grace said to him. Sadly, Dylan was right. Heinz was an alien. And we’d be attacked by not only him but millions of Franken-Fish and we barely got away…

Chapter Nine

“Grace, do you think there are even more freaky fish?” I asked. “Maybe. Don’t ask me! I don’t know!” She said, being polite. “Oh.” I said. “ thought maybe you knew something about them that I didn’t!” I said. “Oh. No. I don’t. If I did, don’t you think I’d tell you?” She had a good point. Suddenly, millions of growls came from behind some trees, bushes, flowers, and shrubs. “Oh boy. Not again!” Dylan cried. “But-but-How’d they find us?” Sarah asked spookily. “Maybe they followed our scent!” Dylan said with fright. “Yeah. Maybe.” I said. Then, out popped Heinz. He ripped off his face to reveal…An alien! “Dylan?” I asked quietly. “Yeah?” “You were totally right about the aliens!” “Run again!” Sarah screamed. “Beep boo bop bee boo bop beep chirp spin buzz.” Heinz said. “I’ve found you, you nasty little brats! Now, I will finally get you! You’ve been able to run from the ten or twenty fish but try…THREE MILLION! MWA BLAH HA MWA HAR!” Heinz laughed. “But-” Grace started. “SHUT UP!” Heinz screamed at the top of his lungs. “ATTACK MY CREATURES!” He yelled to the Franken-Fish. “I don’t even CARE if you’re leaving now! I’m going to ATTACK you ANYWAY! MWA BLAH HA HAR!” He laughed once more. The sinister smile across his alien face was spooky. I screamed and fainted. Then, the Franken-Fish attacked! They bit Grace’s arm, Dylan’s leg, and my hand, foot, arm, and nose. “Where am I?” I asked, rubbing my head. I had been at home and I had fainted. “Haylee!” Sam came into the room. “You’re ok!” she cried. “Yeah. Where were you this whole time?” I asked. “Las Vegas.” She answered. “And I brought you this.” She said, handing me a toy elephant. “I know you like elephants the best so I bought this for you.” She smiled. “Aw. Thanks, Sam!” I put my hand on my heart. “Hey, Haylee’s awake!” Dylan cried with joy. “Are you ok?” Asked Sarah. “Yep. What happened back there?” I asked, looking up, as if I was trying to think. “Oh. That.” Grace said. “Well, the Franken-Fish attacked after you fainted. Then, Heinz tried to eat us, but we were too quick for him. Then, he took his army of Franken-Fish back to the KNA. We carried you back home and your mom wasn’t home. But, we stayed here until you woke up. And, we found Sam outside the door!” Dylan explained. “Oh cool!” I said. Something didn’t seem right about Sam, though. She seemed alien-like. Unfortunately, I was right about Sam acting weird…

Chapter Ten

“We need to find out how to stop Alien Heinz!” I cried. “But, we can’t go back to the KNA now that he’s made millions of Franken-Fish!” Sarah complained. I turned on the T.V. “Heinz is missing! And, we found green slime that has a glow to it! Will we ever solve this mystery?” The guy on the news said. I turned off T.V. “Well, I know where he is.” I said. “Grace, Dylan, and Sarah come here.” I said. “Hey, what about me?” Asked Sam. “Oh. I’ll talk to you in a sec.” I told her. “Sure.” She said. She sat on the couch. “He’s disguised as Sam. This isn’t Sam!” I whispered. “Hayles, ya done?” Sam asked. “Uh…Yeah…Heh heh…” Grace responded to Sam for me. “Ok. Haylee, let’s go to the park.” ‘Sam’ suggested. “Nah. I’m busy.” I said. “How bout you guys?” She suggested and patted Grace’s back. “No thanks.” They all said with a disgusted look on their faces. “Ok. I’ll go ALONE….AGAIN….” She said quietly. She sighed and walked out the door. The door slammed. Soon, Sam walked back in and said in Heinz’s voice, “I gotcha! I knew you were dumb enough to let me in, you twits. You’re such boobs! You are always stupid and idiotic! You’re so pathetic!” Then, I heard that laugh again. “MWA BLAH HA MWA HAR!” It was hideous and I was scared. What we didn’t know was, there were trillions of Franken-Fish right outside my door and they’d attack us-right there and then…

Chapter Eleven

Everything had happened so fast-I could barely keep up! The alien ripped off his face again and he opened the door nice and wide. “Come on in my children! Attack!” He screeched to the Franken-Fish. “My victims. You need to get stronger and stop bein’ a nerd! But, sadly, your chances of life are DONE! Got it? I said GOT IT? HUH?” He screamed at us. “I-I-I-I-I guess so…” Sarah said quietly. “Sure maam.” Grace said in a shaky voice. “Uh…yeah…I guess…” Dylan said. “NO!YOU WON’T TREAT US LIKE THIS! IT’S-IT’S-IT’S-IT’S NOT FAIR!” I screamed at him. “LISTEN! I’M TIRED OF RUNNING! WE CAN’T DO THIS ANYMORE! WE HAVE TO FIGHT!” I screamed. I grabbed my hair and pulled it gently. I huffed and puffed. “NO MORE HIDING!” I screamed. “We have to fight!” I screamed. Everyone looked at me like I was insane. “But, Hayles! There’s WAY too many of those FREAKY FISH! AUGH!” Grace screamed. “Why yes. There are.” He laughed. Suddenly, Franken-Fish came in. They attacked! They jumped on us all. Then, we played dead. The Franken-Fish sniffed the air. Then, they sniffed us. “AHCOO!” Dylan sneezed. “Shhh!” I whispered. I was silent and the Franken- Fish jumped on Dylan and I. It tickled my nose. Then, the Franken-Fish left. “Grrr…Well, at least they’re dead.” Heinz said. Then, I got up and attacked Heinz. Suddenly, he fell to the ground. I had poured milk on his head. Then, the Franken-Fish fell-One by one. “We’re alive!” We all cheered. Heinz was long gone and the Franken-Fish died out in a couple nights. We were all fine- No more evil creatures were there. We all continued on like nothing had happened because we didn’t like to talk about it. “Honey, I’m sorry I didn’t believe you!” Mom cried when she got home that day. I was glad and felt safer that she was home. I smiled. “Let’s run for fun!” Grace cried. “Yeah!” We all cheered. We ran around- The beach, the park, and more. Then, at the park, I met someone named Amanda Green. “Hi.” “Oh hi.” She said. “Have you seen any ants?” She asked. “What‘s wrong with ants?”, I asked. “Oh nothing.” She said. “Tell me.” I said. “Ok. I may sound crazy though.” She told me a haunting story. I told her mine. “Creepy.” We said. The story she told me was about atomic ants. I was scared. But, I was happy my fright was over.
