She sighed, her face turned to the sun. She walked on soft grass, covered with colorful flowers. Her dress made quiet swishing sounds. She touched a pillar with one hand. It was such a beautiful place she had, and she lived the life of a princess. Her sigh was not one of contentment, though, but of longing. It was a perfect, carefree life, always held in the midst of summer. She had a small cottage. Animals visited often. It was the life she used to long for, until she actually got it. She opened her bland, grey eyes, turning to her hand. She had been standing still for so long that a buttefly had landed on it. She tossed her hand up gently, watching the butterfly fly away, its wings flashing in so many colors in the sunlight.

"Fly free," she whispered, "And don't get caught here." Her name meant 'mountain top', and that was where she lived. The top of a mountain. Sana was gentle, quiet, but she liked bright colors. She had always longed for a perfect life, but now she hated it. She was living it. She sat down in the grass. She hated the stupid midnight-colored dresses she had to wear every day, hated the peace and the serenity.

If only Sana could escape back to problems, back to real life. She sat down and leaned against one of the pillars. The pillars. They were the gate to the portal that brought her to this hidden place. Nobody would ever find it. She began to reminisce of a time when she was just a little girl.

Sana was crying outside in the glade by their home. Her mother had just died. She heard footsteps, and turned to see her father.

"I thought I'd find you here," he said gently. His eyes were the same bland grey as Sana's. Sana sniffed.

"Will I ever see Mommy again?" Her voice was shaking, and it came out as partially a whimper, but she needed to know. Her father sighed, and thought for a long moment.

"You will, Sana," he answered. The naive, innocent child ran up to her father.

"Daddy," she asked slowly, "Where do you think Mommy will live? When I see her again?" Another long moment of thinking.

"She will live in a beautiful clearing, in the middle of the forest. It'll be filled with flowers, and animals will be everywhere. There will be a cottage, white with lots of ivy climbing on it, and nooks and crannies in the roof for birds to nest. When you come, your mother will rush out to greet you, wearing that gold dress she always loved, the one that burned in the fire," her father said.

"When will I meet her?" Sana asked eagerly.

"When you die, and then we'll all be at the age of our happiest memories, together." Sana's dad picked her up, and she planted a kiss on his cheek.

"I love you, Daddy."

She had longed for the place she was in ever since, but it was always with her family. Not by herself. She'd often daydream when she was back where she belonged. That is, until the day reality hit again.

Her father died when she was eighteen, and two years passed. She was going to marry, and then she ended up here. How long had it been when she'd last been home? When she'd last talked to her father? Her fiance?

Tears slid down Sana's cheek. She wanted home. She hated everything about this place. She wanted her mother, her father, even her older brother. If she could just have one of those, she'd be truly happy.

But it would never happen. She watched clouds come, covering the sun. And then it started to rain. It had never rained before, yet the grass stayed fresh and green. She let it soak into every inch of her. She fantasized her mother called out.

"Sana!" her mother would call. She'd open her eyes, and see herself at the age before her mother got sick. Sana would jump up, and run into her mother's arms. Her mother would be glowing like an angel, wearing the gold dress. Her father would embrace her too, wearing his nicest outfit.

She thought it was almost real. But when she stopped fantasizing, she was still in the same place, still the same age. And with that, no longer did the tears slide down Sana's cheeks. She burst into a full-on sob, falling to the ground and clutching at the grass as she cried and cried.

She would never see her family again, the portal would never open. It rained once, and caused a daydream, but it never would again. She cried for an hour, and then another one, and another one. When she was finished, it was dark. She layed perfectly still, exhausted. No matter how real her daydreams seemed, they'd never get what Sana really wanted.

She wanted her family back. And now she knew that would never happen, especially not with daydreams.
