- Lyrics by Puddle of Mudd, from the song Blurry. Thanks to Luvie for introducing me to Puddle of Mudd. Also, each part will switch between the two mains - Jackson Tate and Adelaide Hopkins. Hope this doesn't get too boring. It's been a while since I wrote something lengthy, and I intend to try and finish it. Also, I'm doing NANOWRIMO, for anyone concerned. My user is dandelion-, feel free to add me.

- Jackson Tate, his view.

“Can you take it all away?”

Adelaide Hopkins shifted from foot to foot, her mouth filled with a handful of pins. She stared at me, contemplating something I'd never have a hope of understanding, and withdrew a single pin from the confusion between her lips. Wiping the bulb at the top, she eased it into the material surrounding me, her head tilted slightly as she continued with the adjustments. Even as careful as she was, sometimes a stray pin would nick my flesh, punching a tiny hole that was oblivious to the naked eye. Twice, I'd bled. Each time, Adelaide had apologised profoundly, biting her lip and looking immensely worried. Perhaps she was afraid I'd make her find some other model. I highly doubted that was it, though, for she was one of the kindest girls I knew. Not that I knew many. No, she was worried that she'd hurt me.

I stared at her for a moment before looking away. I didn't need a mirror to know my cheeks were turning pink, I could feel the colour rising beneath my skin, heating swiftly. It was as if someone had stuck a heater, or perhaps a hair-dryer, right in front of my face. I glanced at Adelaide from the corner of my eye, watching as her eyes danced along the length of my body. I was taller than her, even without the aid of the chair I was standing on. She was beautiful, even in the dull lighting of the classroom. Rainy days always made the rooms dull. There wasn't enough light, but the were too much to warrant the wasting of eletricity. At least, as far as Adelaide was concerned.

She took a step back, moving into a patch of brighter light thrown through the window, illuminating her face as she did. Her skin was a gentle mixture of milk and honey, spun together so the perfect creamy white of a fresh glass of milk had a golden hue to it. Her cheeks and nose were dusted with freckles. She had beautiful lips, a gift from the heaven's above, if there were such a place. They were small, but suited her perfectly. Heart-shaped and the colour of freshly bloomed red rose. To her shoulders fell a mixture of browns and golds, splayed in mostly straight locks that fell in layers to frame her face, a fringe that cut down the side of her face, on the left, and curled effortlessly around her eye. It was her eyes that enchanted me most. Sometimes, they looked to be more gold than brown, for the dark iris was flecked through with a topaz-kind of colour. A gold, much like the gold of a crayon.

“You can step down now,” She declared, offering me a hand. I took it, moving somewhat robotically to keep the pins from stabbing at me any more than necessary. “Thanks, heaps, Jackson.” Adelaide watched me for a moment before she let my hand drop, smiled, and turn quickly to wait while I eased myself free of the pinned fabic. It was difficult, but I managed, and hurriedly slid back into my jeans and sweatshirt. I cleared my throat and she turned, her smile still present. “Yeah, well, thanks. I'll show you the finished product, of course. Do you have any ideas you want to offer, you know, before you run off and leave me to my devices? I mean, you have to wear them, on presentation day.”

“Uh,” I flushed, darker than before, and shrugged. Adelaide giggled childishly and rolled her eyes. “Just, whatever you do, don't make me look like a chick or something. That would be terrible. Not that being a chick is a bad thing, I guess, for girls, but I'm a guy... and...” I winced. I sounded like a fool – not that that wasn't normal – but I was in front of Adelaide. The only girl in the entire school who took be seriously. Besides Tammy Parker. “I'm going to shut up. And go. Now. Before... yeah. 'Bye.”

She was still giggling as I left, my face a mask of crimson.

“You're still alive, then.” I declared, settling myself down in front of Tammy Parker, my best – and perhaps only real – friend. She shrugged loosely, picking a piece of lettuce from her burger. As much as Tammy loved food, she hated lettuce, for reasons beyond my comprehension. She also hated walking the five steps from out outdoor park bench to the rubbish bin. “I thought you were on another diet. Or was that Clarabelle?”

“Clara needs a diet. But no, I'm not on one, thank you very much, Jackson Tate.” Tammy retorted, glaring at me half-heartedly. Her eyes shone, the brilliant brown orbs sparkling mischeviously. I had come to recognise that light in her eyes, for it normally meant my enduring another of her brilliant plots to set me up with someone. More often than not, I'd found, it meant her trying to set me up with her closest female friend. Adelaide. It wasn't that I didn't like Adelaide like that, for I did, but she wasn't interested in me. Or anyone, as far as anyone knew. “How was Ade this morning?”

“She didn't say much,” I murmured, blushing. It was always like this. Tammy pursuing the subject like some crazed demon, and my blushing like a tomatoe. An oddly thin tomatoe, as Tammy often said. “But she did happen to have a mouthful of pins for most of the morning, and when she did speak, it was only to ask me to stand still. Or apologize.” I shurgged loosely, adverting my eyes from Tammy's gleaming eyes. “For stabbing me. With said pins.”

“Ask her out,” Tammy grinned. It wasn't a suggestion so much as a demand. Tammy was like that, and no amount of anything other than agreeance would get her to even consider dropping the subject. It was like a puppy with a favourite toy, if you asked me. Tammy was relentless when she thought she had a point. It could be horrendous, at times, but I adored her for it. Even as much as I hated it. “You like her, so why not? The worst she could say is no.”

“Or she'd never talk to me.” I offered, “Or I would die of humiliation.”

“And if I ask her for you?”

“Then, Tammy, I wouldn't be able to attend your funeral – I'd be behind bars. Because I'll be the reason you're dead.” I answered briskly, glaring at her now, despite my furiously red cheeks. “Besides, I don't like her. Not like that. I mean, she's pretty, but she's not... not my type.”

“And what, Clarabelle is?” Tammy taunted, “You like her. I know you do. Stand up and face the music, Jackson. She's gorgeous, you know that. Heck, even I know that. Why don't you man up? Man up, and grow some balls.”

Love the interaction between the characters and very cool that you're doing NANOWRIMO . I am too. Will you use Addy, Jackson, and Tammy as characters in your NANO story? Just did a little into for the heroine of my NANO tale- Energia the muse of video game programmers. Hope you'll drop by and let me know what you think of my heroine . Hope you write more because I'd like to see if Jackson and Ade got together ;-).
