One beautiful sunny day, Bella Swan was walking down the street singing "Happy Birthday." It was not her birthday, but she liked the tune, and it reminded her of raw fish that has been rotting for a week and been poisoned with cyanide. She was not sure why it reminded her of this delicacy, but she was not the type to think anything through, and chose to ignore the pressing thoughts.
The girl skipped out into the street, and did a twirl. Her pristine white skirt caught the sun's brilliant rays and nearly blinded several passerby, but the inconsiderate creature did not notice or care. Her blouse was a pale shade of blue, like a bleached summer sky, and revealed a great bit more than was customary for a casual outfit. Suddenly, a shadow was cast over her lovely day, causing her to fling back her head and stare morosely at a heavy cloud that passed over her good friend the sunshine.
Wait. She was dating an uber-rich vamp, she was envied by millions of girls around the world, she had earned thousands of dollars for Meyer. She should not have to put up with any of this.
With a new purpose in her stride, Bella stomped out to the middle of the road and screamed at the sky, giving vent to the anguish that arose from within. She cursed and flung her thin arms about, hissing and spitting like a deranged animal.
"FXCK YOU, NATURE! I'M BELLA FXCKING SWAN! YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME! YOU CAN'T DO THIS, YOU BXTCH!"
The sky did not answer as the girl howled and moaned curses, churning the pale skin of her face into a mottled red. Bella screamed, and screamed again, not caring that each one tore at her throat more than the last. Her rabid howling prevented her from hearing the rumbling engine approaching until it was much too late.
A moment before impact, her head swiveled and she saw her doom, the heavy metal grating that adorned the front of the truck. She didn't have time to scream, only to inhale sharply one last reflexive breath to the sound of the loudly blasting horn and the squealing brakes. As the grate hit her body, she let out the breath in an anguished cry. Bella's limp body was propelled several feet forward before finally skidding to a stop at the base of a stop sign. She failed to see the irony in this as she was too busy trying to breathe, to force air in through her bruised insides, tears forming at the corners of her eyes as her cracked ribs heaved with spasms.
"Oh, god, miss, are you alright?" The voice was male, silky, and... Edward?
"Ed... ward..." She moaned, suddenly aware of how awful she must look. I musn't dissapoint Eddikins... she thought in a haze. My clothes are probably stained for good...
Bella heard him laugh, softly, not loud enough for anyone but her to hear. "Bella. You look so wonderful covered in your lifeblood."
"Ed...?"
"You know, since you're critically injured and going to die, I guess I should tell you the truth," He murmured to her. "We never cared about you. We were all just playing, waiting for you to slip up. You were just a game to see how long we could pretend."
"N-no... don't lie..."
"Nobody's lying, woman. You're deluded."
"N-n-n..."
"I've always loved breaking you fragile little girls. My whole family has. It was Esme's idea to use the truck. You know, I always told you that you were my first love. The truth is, that's what I tell all of them. You're no exception. You're not even the prettiest."
Bella could no longer speak, only gasp feebly as Edward picked her up and began walking towards the truck. "Takin' this one to the hospital," He said to a passerby. "She'll be fine."
As soon as the man had gone around the corner, he brutally tossed Bella into the back of the van and shut the doors. Her pitiful cries for help went unheard as he walked slowly away, letting her hear each footstep.
Her body was found the next day.
No one missed her.
