Round II of Orii's Bored Out Of My Brain Cells

[Edward Cullen] reveals something to [Margot] without meaning to.

**DISCLAIMER** Edward Cullen is the property of Stephenie Meyer

"Accidental Eyes"

Margot sat pristinely in her school chair, glaring out the window in a pondering silence, a frown creasing her haughty face. Her mind was far gone, far away from the dull gray classroom and the empty chatter of her classmates. She was interrupted however by a movement out of the corner of her eye as someone pulled up a chair next to her.

She turned to look skeptically into the intense topaz eyes of a very pale boy with very unkempt hair and an emotionally unstable look about him. She raised her eyebrows in prissy apprehension.

“Yes?” she prompted. “You are…?”

His voice was low and rich as he replied, “My name is Edward Cullen.”

Margot thought he looked a bit like he was choking, and she looked down her nose at him as she asked, “Is there something I can help you with?”

It made her uncomfortable the way he was staring at her, like she was a piece of meat. He didn’t appear to be breathing, either. What a strange, strange boy. His reply was, “No, I don’t think so. But, may I sit here next to you?”

Margot pondered him for a moment more before deciding it wouldn’t hurt. He seemed harmless enough.

“Yes, you may,” she conceded. “But,” she quickly amended, “if it appears that I am lost in thought, I would prefer not to be disturbed,” she finished pointedly.

He almost looked like he was smirking as he nodded his head in consent.

Margot was not the curious kind, and therefore had no personal or professional interest in Edward Cullen whatsoever. They sat in comfortable silence as Margot resumed her pondering and Edward Cullen tapped his fingers soundlessly on the tabletop.

As the teacher entered, the class became mildly subdued, although a few quieter conversations persisted. Margot became instantly alert to the front of the room, notebook open and pen at the ready. English Literature was Margot’s favorite subject, although she excelled in all except Geometry. Math had never been her strong suit, but she got by all right.

Edward Cullen remained motionless by her side for the remainder of the lecture, his long fingers occasionally tapping a soundless melody across his imaginary piano keys. Margot took little notice of him, although there were several giggling girls in the back of the class who were admiring the back of his messy auburn locks.

As the period drew to a close and Margot silently reviewed her meticulous notes, Edward Cullen remained in his chair as the rest of the class trickled out into the halls. Slowly, Margot became aware of the persistent gaze of her neighbor and the absence of all other life forms, save the cactus on the windowsill, basking in the afternoon sunlight.

She met his gaze defiantly and narrowed her eyes. “Excuse me,” her tone dripped with poisonous politeness, “Is there a reason you’re still here?”

He dropped his gaze to his hands for a moment as he cleared his throat. “I suppose…” he began softly. “I suppose,” he met her hot-tempered eyes, “that you fascinate me.”

Margot blinked, twice and very rapidly. She was quite taken aback by his strange compliment. Her eyebrows rose. “I fascinate you?” she verified.

“Yes,” he insisted. “You are quite unlike the other students here.”

“How so?” she demanded to know.

“You…” he paused hesitantly. “Well, you think differently than they do.”

“Well, I don’t doubt that,” she agreed amicably. “However, I do wonder how you could possibly know what it is that I am thinking.”

He looked stricken for a moment, and then his features softened and he hastened to explain himself: “Well, ah -”he stumbled, “that is, ah, that you seem to occupy yourself with more… worthwhile subjects,” he finished uncomfortably.

Margot stared suspiciously back at him as if she didn’t really believe a word he had said. “You, Mr. Cullen,” she said heatedly, “are a strange and nosy boy who pays far too much attention to what others do with their time.”

He glared miserably at the tabletop. “As if I can help it,” he mumbled.

“What?” Margot was taken by surprise.

He looked nervous, and suddenly his head snapped up as if he had heard a voice calling his name. Margot however had heard no voice calling. “I have to go,” he said hurriedly. “Um – thank you, Margot, for keeping me company,” he said as he paused on his way out. He gave a small impish smile and ducked out the door, leaving Margot alone and confused.

Her suspicions awakened, Margot gathered her belongings and exited the classroom, her eyes alert for any sign of Edward Cullen’s strange figure. She intended to get to the bottom of this. She found him outside the gymnasium, huddled deep in conversation with a teacher. Margot waited patiently a ways away, waiting for a moment to question the Cullen boy.

Edward Cullen’s back stiffened a moment later and he peeked over his shoulder at her, glaring slightly, before resuming his conversation. As the older man ambled off a few minutes later, Edward Cullen approached Margot.

“Look,” he said angrily, “I know what you intend to ask, and I already explained myself.”

“On the contrary,” Margot argued, “you only brought up more questions.”

As a group of giggling girls passed by, staring and pointing indiscreetly at him, Edward Cullen rolled his eyes and shook his head in annoyance.

Margot noticed his frown, and she could feel a growing thesis blooming in the back of her mind. It was only a theory, and a rather ridiculous one at that, but it really explained a lot.

As the thought took form, Edward Cullen met her eyes with a frantic plea written in his own.

Margot raised her eyebrows. “Is it true then?” she pressed.

He glared at her and growled, “Keep your thoughts to yourself.”

She laughed as he turned his back on her and walked away. “If it’s true, then that will be quite a feat around you,” she called to his retreating figure.

He paused and faced her. “Just don’t tell anyone,” he warned.

Margot sighed. What a strange boy. She smirked, hoping he’d heard that. This will be fun, she taunted, laughing at him in her mind. The parting look he gave her said he’d heard every word. It gave Margot chills.

I don't know what the title means.

Also, if you don't know what he accidentally revealed, ask anyone around here, or just read Twilight.
