a/n - this is a rewrite from an old acount

---

It began with two races in one world. The domain they lived together in was large enough, but covered with forests and lakes and mountains they could not easily live within and this caused tension between them. The continent was named Alloura; the Rutticanians and the Doeweinains had been able to exist separately but something changed.

Both civilisations were humanoid and consisted of females and males procreating to expand their populations. The Ruttican race were more delicate people, wiser and fond of seafood which did not require much physical strength to catch. They often had paler skin with neutral hair tones and big bright eyes of every colour. Rutticanians (or Ruts for short) built their villages and towns around the large lakes and rivers out of mud bricks and stone. Houses were simple but reliable and there were often large castles or manor houses on higher grounds which were architectural genius. The Doewein race were bulkier and tougher. They lived on outskirts of forests and plains and hunted wild animals such as lions, boars and other small mammals and were taught the way of life from a young age. Due to running around in the sun all day, Doeweinains (or Does) tanned easier and had a much deeper, soft tone to their hair and eyes. The two races were not hugely unlike but they did not see very much of each other to initiate much friendship, though there was plenty of trade between them – Ruts had fish and building supplies and good crops, while Does had meat and finer clothing to offer.

The trouble first started when a scientist Rut whose name is not important and has long been forgotten accidentally created the ultimate virus that could not be cured. He went to the Ruttican government, demanding payment in exchange for such a valuable item. They laughed in his face and dismissed him. The Rut was not amused and when it leaked to the public, the race were up in arms. The scientist was put on the most wanted list and when he crossed over into Doeweinan territory he took the virus with him. Unfortunately it started a war between the Rutticanians and the Doeweinians because of the political friction he has caused and they just could not settle over who was to blame.

It went on for a number of years which numerous battles, each time the other race more powerful with better weapons and they could not stop fighting back. Many members of each clan were lost and barely any were created, woman and men fighting together equally. But one Ruttican had a vision of combining the two empires, bringing their land together and to rule over the new land. Than Ruttican was Rhii Rhonwen Niamh Daginn the Second, the only Princess of the Ruttican Royal Family and the only thing she wanted in the world was peace. She, along with her companion, Carina Coros (a servant of the castle she lived in that Rhii was close friends with), set up an organisation and the princes dedicated the rest of the war recruiting her guard and improving them. She was a bright young woman who had be educated by the best in the land, taught literature and science and music to the highest degree.

Though her family were regrettably killed (the government insisted her parents and brothers lead the army into battle), and her home burnt down long ago, she knew of the one safe house that no one, not even the government, knew of. A small palace stocked with food and provisions to see them long through the turmoil between the races securely. Rhii’s family had planned to move there swiftly but their duty of the race was unescapable. It was located in the forest far from the Ruttican capital she used to occupy and hidden from anyone who was not looking for it.

Rhii had to start her guard quietly, secretly, taking any stragglers than need comfort and a haven from the war that passed by her secret home. They would appear soon enough, she reasoned with her Carina (who preferred Cara).

Almost immediately a young Rutticanian girl, Kathryn, materialised, seeking shelter for her village had burnt to the ground a few days previous. Though she was barely 14 years of age, the child was an amazing warrior once given the chance. She could handle a sword as good as a trained soldier and has a fast mind and lightening quick reactions. Silverish hair flowed down her back until she tied it in a bun during combat and grass green eyes glittered cunningly. She was broader than you would expect a Rut, but this was an advantage and she was not small or weak by any stretch of the imagination and in fine shape.

No one came for a long time after her. Rhii began her experiments, determined to find a way of improving the races both physically and mentally. She relied on Cara to help keep Kathryn in peak condition while she worked, and it wasn’t hard – Cara had plenty of brothers, both older and young who had been force to enlist in the army and had some knowledge of that sort of thing.

After a year or so, Rhii had developed a new mental skill, which she named The Sight. It enabled her to see into everyone’s minds, what they could be, what they had been and what they are. She looked into Kathryn’s mind and saw a power too, strong and clear. She then spent her time developing the girl’s mind, teaching it the skills it needed. Kathryn gained The Touch, the power to hurt someone just by touching them, causing burns that corroded skin like hell and was extremely painful.

It didn’t take long after this for two young stray Doeweinians to accidentally wandering into Rhii’s territory, identical twin sisters, both tanned and ash blonde. Rhii was tempted to reject them; they were so weak and small – no use at all to her. But when she saw into their minds she discovered they had potential abilities too. Alice, the quieter one, had basics for The Future – the ability to look into a person’s future. Jessika, the younger, fierier twin, possessed The Ambiance – a physical and mental power that could change the environment’s atmosphere or someone’s state of mind.

Rhii was surprised at how soon after the twins came that a strange mysterious Rut woman arrived from out of nowhere. Her name was Rebecka and she gained a strong connection with Kathryn. Both good fighters, Kathryn was zealous and sturdy and Rebecka nimble and fair minded. They complimented each other nicely but nothing could rival the bond of Rhii and Cara.

Though Rhii would have thought the twins and the woman unwilling to stay, they agreed easily. The racial different between the founders and the twins seemed to anger Cara but Kathryn strangely warmed to them; maybe because they were all the same now, in many ways.

So Rhii had Cara, Kathryn, Rebecka, Alice and Jessika. It wasn’t much but it was good and right.

It wasn’t until Aydan and Francesca turned up, almost at the same time. They were Doeweins, Aydan tall and lean and Francesca dark and subtly beautiful. Again, Rhii sensed powers in them. Time went by and Aydan proved he could be a solid leader and joined Rhii in this position. She felt she needed a better democracy – she had seen enough of the royal family life to know a single monarch wasn’t going to good but equally a government power with a selected agenda would not fare well. Aydan was the oldest and only male and a match for Rhii. Cara had no experience and would waver to Rhii’s ideas and plots far too easily to be an unbiased source of confidence. No one objected when Rhii decided this.

So along with Aydan and Rhii, the guard was made up of: Kathryn, with her power to burn; Rebecka, with her super strength; Francesca, also a strong fighter; Alice, with the ability to look into a person’s future; Jessika, the ability to change feelings; and Cara, who was proving to be an excellent healer.

Aydan was found to be blessed with the power of The Past, seeing solely into a person’s past. Rhii was overcome by the awesomeness of her guards, companion and fellow leaders. It was soon time for them to create a name for themselves.

The Damasara was a popular vote and it was decided. Francesca and Rebecka were made the lead fighters if they ever needed to battle with Kathryn as their secret weapon. The Damasara now needed to collect followers, make a mark for themselves and bring about a relolution. There were no longer two sides to this war.

This is where we begin their story.
