They went on into town. There, by the clock tower, was a woman in a grey dress. Nikki gasped, and huddled closer to Nilly, stroking Skylar's head. The woman walked over to them; it really was Nikki's mother. "Nikki, my daughter..." she said. "Is that really you? And who are these?" Nikki faced her mother defiantly. "This is my friend Nilly, and my daughter Skylar. I married Jay, a kelpie, that's why she looks like that; she also has a human form but as far as I'm concerned she's perfect whatever she looks like. Why didn't you think that about me?" Nikki's mother looked sad. "I'm so sorry, but it wasn't like that. I just thought that it was my fault you looked like you did, and you were better off without me. I've missed you every day of my life."
