The meat meant for storage was smoking nicely, and would soon be ready to take down and store in the food caves. The wolves and cats were now sitting down and eating dinner, the roasted meat and offal having been finished and put out to eat. Phelan had praised Cecy for her help; she had shown great promise which to him would have been good enough for a young wolf, let alone a pampered cat who had never done anything for herself before.

Cecy glowed with his praise, but said, "I'm honored to be taught by someone who's obviously so knowledgeable and worthy of being a future leader."

What had changed? A day or so ago, all she wanted to do was spit at Phel. But now, she felt curiously different; grateful, of course, but there was more to it.

Harley had, in fact, found some different clothes for Shiki, including a top that much less resembled a dress. He'd told Shiki they could train the next morning.

Taka had taken her half of the herbs and set some out to dry and crushed other, then promptly asked Ivory what he did with his.

Phelan had felt pleased at Cecy's progress, and also her thanks. He too wondered what had changed. He had hated her a little while ago, when she had seemed nothing more than a spoiled rotten brat, but now, things seemed different.

Nodding to Harley, Shiki continued to gnaw on his food, his tail swaying back and forth in happiness.


Ivory only smiled and said it was a secret and continued to eat his meal.


Next to Ivory was Kioren looking a little interested about the conversations around him while he ate his food.

Thus, the meal passed rather pleasantly on all sides.

In the middle of the meal, Taka went to her half-brother. "Phelan, there's wild boar nearby," she told him."

"We'll have to organise a hunt in that case, but not right now," Phelan replied.

"We don't need any more food at this moment; we can take the hunt out tomorrow. Besides, it's getting late and everyone's getting tired."

"I know, I just wanted to tell you," Taka said with a smile.

[Miranda_]

"Thanks for letting me know," Phelan replied.

"We can go out as a pack tomorrow; show the cats just how we hunt. It's just so strange that they hunt separately."

Stretching his arms above his head and mouth opening to release a yawn, Shiki curls up against Harley's side, nuzzling into him. "Harley... Shiki is tired."
