"Great, let's go," Lucy said. He enjoyed toying with Aza just a bit. He was tempted to bring up Tina to Victor, but decided the magpie was having enough confusion for the day.

Victor wasn't sure about how he was progressing with Tina at all. On one hand, she seemed to like him; on another, she didn't really seem to want to either spend time with him or even touch him.

Tina did like him, but was full of confusion about herself and what she wanted.

Lucy walked with the other two toward the river, letting his ears guide him.

There, as was told, Nedakh was quizzing Dolph on a Beta's duties.

And of course Victor, who had nothing to compare it to and was too introverted to raise the topic with Tina, just kept on in the same pool of confusion.

Dolph was nervous, but was answering well to the quizzing.

"Well, Dolph, it seems we've come to the end of the questions," Nedakh said, dragging out whether or not the young wolf passed to see how he'd react; this was, in effect, the final test; a sore loser or nervous wreck would not be a good Beta. Nerves were fine, but breaking down would be a bad sign.

Lucy was surprised that Victor was keeping up, then instantly became ashamed of his surprise; the man had been working tirelessly of late, and no longer looked like a scarecrow.

Dolph sighed in relief, but stood up straight, waiting for his results.

As well as having more training in archery, Victor was also eating a lot better than he had been back in Ave, and had a slightly better attitude towards working out. Ari had told him that strengthening exercises would help improve his game, rather than simply saying he had to do them to build himself up. As a result, Victor had worked hard.

Nedakh smiled, the corners of his eyes creasing in genuine happiness; he could smell the lingering nerves, but Dolph was steady. "You passed. Congratulations, I deem you a worthy Beta."

Soon enough, the bit of fied in which Dolph and Nedakh were standing was soon visible.

Dolph smiled. "Thanks, Eltos," he replied.

Victor poked Lucy. "Look, there they are," he said, pointing to where Dolph and Nedakh were.

"The pleasure is mine-" the leader began.

Lucy drew a deep breath and interrupted, "HEY, Nedakh or Eltos or whatever!"

Victor winced. "Couldn't you have just waved?"
