"Ah, yes, someone has to be picked, and quickly, so that we can train him," Nedakh frowned.

Cecy joined the older feline and sat down. She too was in leggings. "How long have you lived here?"

[Miranda_]

Phelan came to the Hall and knocked, knowing that his father and Ulricha were there.

"Ages," Ari replied. "I only wish I'd come here sooner."

"Come in!" Nedakh called.

"Oh. Um, do you mind if I asked what your surname was back home?" Cecy asked.

[Miranda_]

Phelan entered the Hall. "Sorry for interrupting," he said, "But I just spoke to Ari about a new Beta Apprentice. She says that there's a young wolf named Dolph who could be it."

"Chase," Ari replied.

"Dolph? Is he from here, one of the outlying towns, or farther off?" Nedakh asked.

"Oh. What was your life like before you came here?" she asked.

[Miranda_]

"One of the outlying towns, or so Ari says," Phelan replied. "Apparently, she thought he had potential for training a while ago, but the Beta Apprentice role was already filled."

"Awful," Ari replied, making a grimace. "My parents thought that I should be the obedient daughter and stay at home til it was time for me to marry. My brother was different; he encouraged me to learn swordplay, but then he was killed in battle. That's when I too wanted to go and fight, so I disguised myself and took a male name so that I could do so."

"Fantastic. We should get to him as soon as possible," Nedakh said.

"So you were set up to be a trophy wife? I understand entirely," Cecy said with a shudder.

[Miranda_]

"Maybe later today we could go and tell him," Phelan said.

"Yeah, that's pretty much as good as most upper class families think their daughters can get," Ari replied, rolling her eyes.

"Yes. In the meantime, son, does anyone around here have hay to spare?" Nedakh asked.

"I had to nag my way into position as diplomat, and I'm sure he thinks I'm failing," Cecy rolled her eyes.

[Miranda_]

"Yeah, I could go get some," Phelan said.

"That's surprising, seeing as a rock would make a better diplomat than the king," Ari replied.
