Victor flushed red. He couldn't think how on earth Lucy could know about this and couldn't think of a word to say.

Victor wasn't being facetious, he genuinely didn't know that one of the bad effects of chronic opium addiction, as well as sterility, was to lose all desire and ability to carry it out. Since he'd only been fourteen when he'd gotten addicted, he'd never really had any past experiences to draw on and compare.
