No Light, No Light (Private)

Ty would have much prefered to go second, so he'd know that the rope would hold, but felt he had no choice. He grasped the rope with both hands and slowly scaled the wall. His feet slipped sometimes, but the rope saved him from falling. When he got to the window, he pushed out the remaining glass and sat on the sill so that he could calculate the drop. It seemed too far to just jump; if he landed badly, he could hurt himself, so he decided to wait for the rope.

Gabrielle clambered up after, much quicker than he had been. She sat with her leg dangling over the edge of the outside, pulled up the rope after herself and scanned the surrounding real. She frowned.

"Looks like we've found some of the unaccounted ones." she said, pointing. Lurking in the shadows was a small group of three or four, clearly meant to be keeping watch together.

"Here, hold on to me for a minute, will you? Just make sure I don't fall."

Ty did so, with an involuntary shudder as he touched Gabrielle. He tried to avoid touching or being touched as much as possible; it brought back memories of horrible events which he tried hard to forget about. Even the most innocent of touches did this.

Gabrielle didn't shudder, though she did tense up involuntarily. She focused on the small group, trying to ignore Ty. As she concentrated, an intense pressure and pain build up in her head. It was piercing and hot, like a rusty blade heated in a furnace being jammed in her eye socket. The pain flowed forward, into her eyes and out.

Gabrielle went limp, her eyes still open but now blank, as the four demons were smeared along the group for several metres in long red streaks, as though something extremely heavy and fast had crashed into them and dragged them along the ground.

Ty let out an involuntary gasp. He just about managed to keep hold of Gabrielle as he saw the four demons destroyed in front of them.

After a few minutes, Gabrielle raised her head with a groan. She clutched the side of the broken window pane for support, holding her head with the other.There was a steady flow of blood from her nose and the sclera of one eyes had rapidly fading black tendrils running through it.

"Are you alright to climb down?" Ty asked inadequately, throwing the rope down to the other side. It nearly reached the ground, there being a slight drop but one which would be easy enough to do and with no risk of injury.

"We should move before any other demons come this way."

"I think you should go first. I need... I need a minute." Gabrielle said, still looking and sounding dazed. "I just need to catch my... breath."

She leant forward, catching herself on the sill just in time.

Ty said no more but began to slowly climb down the rope. This was easier than climbing up, but he had to be careful not to slide down too quickly and hurt his hands. When he got to the short drop, he looked down to gauge the distance then quickly dropped, landing on his feet.

Gabrielle followed a few moments later. She moved slower than she had going up, but was still fairly nimble. When she got about halfway, she dropped and landed on all fours. There was a snap but she stood up without issue and dusted off her clothes. The blood had stopped flowing from her nose and the black tendrils in her eyes had completely faded.

"You ready to leave?"
