"Good. We can-" He paused when he saw a young boy of mixed racial heritage carrying a girl with bright pink hair and horns past the small emergency window leading to the fire escape stairs. He headed toward what appeared to be a bedroom, and James noted that the girl -what was the enhanced one called again? Sleet, or something? No, Rain- had bandages wrapped around her feet.
James couldn't see into Jerome's bedroom from this vantage point, however.
He smiled. "Wel, well, well... better than I thought; with her feet bandaged up like that, I highly doubt she's going anywhere soon."
Jerome carried Rain over to his own bed and gently set her down. He'd had her change into a pair of his pajamas and a baggy tee-shirt, and had discarded the near-rags she'd been wearing. "Alright," he said softly, "now you can sleep. We have a while before my father comes home, and, even then, he still might not notice you."
