"Whaat? Destiny? Like- soulmates, or something?" Emil wanted to snort and discount it, but, yet, she somehow knew she hadn't imagined their connection, even though it went beyond all reason...

[Miranda_]

"Just like soulmates," Dolph replied.

[spirit_queen]

Emily looked shocked, then pensive. At last, she said, "No."

A pause. "I refuse; nobody writes my destiny but me. I barely even know you, and fate is throwing us together?" She stamped her foot. "No."

[Miranda_]

"Up to you. But right now, I don't see someone controlling their own destiny at all. I see someone carried along by the river, refusing to get out and walk along the bank cuz they're too scared to do so, but instead paddling with their hands and acting as tho they're happy being wet and cold and it's their choice to be that way."

[spirit_queen]

"You think I'm scared for me? I've already been through hell; I've stayed where I am for Mia," Emily objected. "Foster care is sh*t; if I can keep my parents from damaging Mia too much, we're better off where we are... at least until I get a job and turn 18. Then I'm getting her away from here, to have a real childhood, on I couldn't have."

[Miranda_]

"I expect she's already damaged, despite your best efforts," Dolph replied. "In any case, it won't help you if you try and keep her away from being friends with my sister. Lupe will look after Mia, and will fight anyone who tries to hurt her."

[spirit_queen]

"She can be friends with Lupe; Mia needs more friends," Emily sighed attempting -and failing- to run a hand through her thick hair. Instead, her fingers got tangled up, and she yanked them out in frustration. "I just always feel like my own life is out of my control. I get few choices, and none of them really lead to good places."

[Miranda_]

"And if anyone tried to hurt you, well, I could get them back," Dolph replied.

"I'd ask you to stay with me but, well, you know how it is. Our group is kind of private within."

The real reason, of course, was that the werewolf pack couldn't have humans living with them due to the need to hunt every night. Not unless they went to a witch and procured a sleeping draught for the visiting humans so there was no chance of them waking up in the night.

[spirit_queen]

"Why would you want to do that? You barely know me... hell, why are we even supposed to be 'soulmates' or whatever? We don't even match up, do we? You're all wild, free, confident and I'm-" she snorted. "I'm sure you saw, I don't need to say how messed up I am. How weak."

[Miranda_]

"It doesn't work like that," Dolph replied. "I don't really know much about it myself. Just that it exists, and you know when you've met your soulmate. And I know you're mine, and I want to protect you."
