Lupe smiled. All the werewolves in the pack had names that meant "wolf" in some way. Her own name meant "river of the wolf".
"So's yours," she said. "I hope we can be friends, and not just cuz my brother's dating your sister." Dolph felt it too. It was as tho the pair of them had been struck by lightning, but in a good way. It almost felt as tho they were two drops of water, getting closer and closer til they merged... ![]() |

"Thank you! Yeah, I want friends; the kids here don't like me," Mia pouted.
In a sudden, silent explosion, Emily's mind burst through to Dolph's; she could see all of him, and he could see all of her. Emily was full of shadows and dark places, horrid memories of the abuse her parents committed; both parents had been abusive in ways psychological, physical, and sexual. She was full of shame, self-loathing, sorrow and un-healed psychological wounds, but most of all she was consumed by hate and anger. The only light places within Emily's battered and bruised soul were her moments with Mia, and her music lessons... oh, sure, being with guys had a small part in what light she had, but it was like comparing a candle to the sun. Emily was content to be like this for a few moments, as she was still in shock, but then she seemed to realize that something abnormal was happening and that a boy she'd know for approximately four hours was seeing- NO! The moment was shattered; Emily wrenched herself free of the connection, shoved Dolph and backed away like a frightened -and dangerous- animal. ![]() |

Dolph's mind was in contrast filled with wildness and joy of the hunt. There was something within it which drew the mind; a picture of the night, but not one that had ever been viewed by a human. The sharp tang of different scents on the breeze; the full moon hanging like a round lamp in the sky; the stars, much larger and bursting with colours that the human eye never saw. The forest, full of whispers and sounds, certainly not silent. The crackle as a deer stepped on dead leaves. And finally, a fierce surge of wilding euphoria.
When Emily tore loose, Dolph stepped back in confusion. It was almost as tho a physical connection had been broken and he was in shock. Dolph also had guessed the meaning behind what he and Emily had shared; the soulmate principle. But the Night World forbade that a werewolf could fall in love with a human. ![]() |

"That wasn't anything I was doing," Dolph replied. He wondered whether or not Emily had seen anything within his mind. True, most humans wouldn't get the significance; they believed that creatures like werewolves were made up. But still, he wondered.

"I'm not sure if you'd believe me if I told you," Dolph replied. "There's an idea that everyone is destined for one other person, and when they meet them, they know."
This was as much as Dolph could say, keeping within the laws of the Night World. ![]() |
