Clover was eating fairy cakes and observing the ponies in the town. She couldn't help but notice that none of them had cutie marks.

Scuttler had no intention of coming back to the classroom. Instead, he followed the tracks left by the gang of hooky-playing troublemakers. He found that the ended up near a path into the Everfree Forrest. Oh boy, thought Scuttler, either I'm coming back with the greatest tattle of all time, or I'm not coming back at all. Here goes. He took a large swallow of sunny air and mustered up every ounce of courage he had before charging down the path. Being in the forrest was scary enough; he'd rather risk getting caught by his "victims" then spending too much time along in there.

Clover asked a nearby townspony, "Where are your cutie marks?"

"I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean," the pony replied. She smiled brightly. "I'm Threeleaf. I love Sunny Town; I've lived here all my life and I've never wanted to leave, so I never knew there were other ponies living outside the Everfree forest. Do help yourself to the daisy custard tarts, they're nice."

Threeleaf wandered off to speak to a nearby pony named Roneo, who looked sad.

"I know," Clover whispered back. "Isn't that weird? I wonder why they don't have them."
