Once and Future King: RP

"Who will do that? You're the only one who's seen the king's body," Someone said.

"I will," Merlin answered simply, "though we might need the court physician to have a look at him before we do anything".

So the council sent a messenger to get the physician.

He checked over the body, and confirmed that the King was indeed dead, killed by a loss of blood caused by a wide slit that stretched across his throat. It could officially be announced that Uther had indeed been murdered. Claiming it would be best to announce the situation as soon as possible, Merlin ordered the members of the council to tell the upper and lower nobles alike that their presence would be required that evening, in the throne room. The news could later be spread amongst the peasants.

Now the wizard busied himself with the business end of enchanting the King's sword so that it would only answer to the true heir of the throne. He knew very well that this would be Arthur, however it was best to have proof, people would be more likely to follow him. Without proof the crowds might refuse to accept it and trouble would follow no doubt. So Merlin locked himself in his quarters and refused to answer the door. If anyone knocked, he told the council members, they would have a first class demonstration of the less pleasant side of magic.

The council member of course spread the news, and the news went from ear to ear. Like a game of telephone, the stories seemed to get wilder and wilder by the second.

Several tales mentioned that the King has in fact been stabbed by a previous lover's ghost, in a time of magic and enchantment this story wasn't nearly as ridiculous as it sounded. Others detailed the gory end to the King's life as the result of a self inflicted wound, that the King had in fact killed himself after his guilty conscience had become to great.

Luckily Guine's father was one of the prime members of the council, and so the story she heard was quite boring compared to these epic tales of tragedy and betrayal. Yes, the King had been murdered, but it was very unlikely it had been at the hands of his lover's ghost.*

She had only said goodbye to Arthur around an hour ago, and was rather annoyed she wouldn't have the time to polish of some of the jewelry they had found upstairs. Instead Guine would have to march off to hear what that half-mad wizard had to say, she was fairly sure her father felt similarly about the whole thing, a lot of the time he liked to avoid huge fusses. Though it was a fuss that really couldn't be avoided in any way, shape or form.

Arthur didn't believe half the tales presented; the king would never kill himself, and he was too tough for a mere ghost to take him down. There were also tales of demons coming for him, but Arthur still wasn't convinced.

Eventually it was time for Merlin to give his long awaited speech. Not a natural public speaker the man tended to stutter and ramble, and so most of the nobles realized they would probably be in for quite a long talk.

Due to the importance of this speech, even Ector was able to come in... and he was sweating buckets.
