An announcement had been made on behalf of the school governers concerning mutants being in school. The announcement said that for the moment, mutant teenagers would be on suspension, and that a meeting to discuss the matter was scheduled in a week's time where a permanent decision would be reached. Anyone who wished to speak would be allowed to attend and say their piece.

Charles knew he'd have to attend and speak on the students' behalf, or they'd be expelled for reasons beyond their control.
