Once the cure was released, the quarantined mutants were released and the world seemingly went back to how it had been before. Most normal humans were unaware of the mutants in their midst, only recognising those who had physical differences instead of or alongside their powers. This was all about to change, however. Beneath the earth's crust, tremendous power was building up beneath the city of Bayville. An earthquake was imminent.
Scientists studied this kind of thing carefully, however they weren't always able to pinpoint exactly when an earthquake would hit. And others had different things on their minds. The American government were worried about the presence of nuclear submarines in the ocean; subs which had been sunk during the war and lay on the ocean bed still containing their deadly cargo. The army were working alongside government scientists to detect each and every sub and decide what to do about them.

The X-Teens were to go to school today; it was a dreaded Monday. Nobody liked Mondays, though Vaughn was actually interested in the tryouts for the play; here, he had managed to convince people that he dyed his hair, and they'd finally seemed to believe him.

Rogue grumbled about having to go to school, especially after all the excitement they'd had recently. School would seem far more dull now.
Paul wasn't overkeen, either; he had bad memories of his old school after he had been found out to be a mutant.

"I just hope nothing bad happens, that's all," Paul said to Rahne. "Especially, I hope that the Brotherhood don't try and cause any trouble."
Louise planned to attend school that day; in any case, if she got too bored, she could always cut classes with Lance. There was also baiting Kitty and Vaughn, which Louise never got tired of doing.
