Scott paused to take note of this; after all, this place was to be where they were to die. However, there seemed to be no way around it. If they simply flew the jet away now, they'd still have to come back cuz otherwise the virus would eventually be introduced to the mutant population at a later date and the world would be doomed. All they could do now would be to remember what Jean's vision had shown and try to do things differently as they went to the underground laboratory.

"Come on," Scott said, quietly. "Let's just do this." He led the others to the place where Jean said was the best place to get to the secret lab from above. Laura was excited, Paul apprehensive and Rogue worried. Bishop was silent as Scott began to use his eye laser beam to cut a tunnel thru the ground to the secret underground lab.

Scott directed his energy beams down into the ground, carving out a tunnel to the secret lab. Soon they were blasting thru the wall. Creed stood next to a stranger, a tall man with dark skin and brown hair. "I need help," he was saying to the stranger. "I can't be infected now or it'll be too late to direct the votes..."
At this moment, the wall blew apart, and Scott and Jean led the other X-men into the laboratory. "The game's up, Creed," Scott said. "We've come to put an end to your virus." "You led the X-men here!" the stranger exclaimed angrily to Creed. "You deserve to suffer." The man changed, becoming taller and wider, eventually becoming... Apocalypse! Creed said, unbelievingly, "A mutant!" before collapsing into a heap. "I am as far beyond mutants as they are beyond you," Apocalypse said. "I am eternal and can never be defeated." He sent blasts of purple lasers towards the team, they scattered. Laura ran towards him, claws bared; a purple blast hit her in the stomach and threw her back, towards a plinth where a huge tube containing the virus stood. Paul was about to snatch Laura to safety when Bishop grabbed his arms, stopping him. Laura hit the tube, smashing it to pieces, the liquid splashing all over her. Paul turned on Bishop. "What did you do that for?!" he yelled at the time travelling mutant. "You've just let Apocalypse kill her!" "No, I just saved us all," Bishop said, quietly. He took a strange ball like object from his pocket and threw it at Apocalypse's feet. A forcefield leapt up, trapping the giant behind it. Bishop continued his explanation, speaking louder so that everyone could hear. "I thought of this idea after Jean's vision, and after I found out about Laura," he said. "She's a clone of Wolverine, therefore she has his super healing power. See, it's already curing her." This was true. Arching her back, Laura reared up on to her feet from a kneeling position. At first she'd been horribly affected by the virus; now tho, her healing powers were curing her, creating antibodies which, if studied by a scientist, would create a universal cure for the plague. Bishop turned to face Apocalypse. "We have the cure now, Apocalypse," he said. "Your virus is now useless." Apocalypse shook with anger but was unable to fight thru the forcefield to reach the X-men. "My beautiful virus," he growled. "The mutant filth have destroyed everything!" He directed a laser blast upwards, blowing a hole thru which he was able to escape. A computer controlled ship was waiting for him outside and he was soon upon it. As soon as this happened, the ship sped off at the speed of light and was soon lost to view.
