A young man with skin so dark it made coffee look light walked beside Laura. His name was Sunum, pronounced "shu-noom", and he could absorb and channel energy. His best offense was the equivalent of a lightning strike.
On Laura's other side was Lily, a young woman who appeared to be part chinese but yet had dark blonde hair and freckles. She could manipulate water, a skill that sounded basic but that she used quite cunningly and was very effective. Meanwhile, Forge waited in his hide-away lab with Louise. "I hope they'll make it alright," he said, brow creasing with worry. Forge was a man of direct Cheyenne descent, but it wasn't a heritage he seemed to own up to much, even with his training as a medicine man. His ability was to subconsciously design new machines; sometimes, he even had to take apart his own creations to understand how they worked! ![]() |

"All clear," Laura murmured to her companions. "At least, for now. Keep your eyes peeled for any signs of either Sentinals or Trackers. We may have to fight."
Louise had replied to Forge, "I expect they'll be fine. They're the best, after all, that we have." She was in her thirties, and looked a lot older than Laura, who due to her mutant healing factor, didn't age. Louise prefered not to think of the past if she could help it, now that most of the X-men and Brotherhood were now dead, all save herself, Laura, Wolverine and of course Mystique and Paul, both of whom were listed as "whereabouts unknown". That was down to them both being shapeshifters; they could be anywhere. ![]() |

Laura led the way thru the devastated town. Most of the buildings were practically falling down; some were occupied by transient groups of humans. Every sense of Laura's was tingling; she knew that she and the others were in permanent danger every moment that they spent in the open.
"And when they get here," Louise added, "We can power up the time machine. Maybe we can make a difference here if we prevent the assassination." ![]() |

Sunum and Lily were each as tense as Laura; nobody was safe in the open, not for long. And even though they'd been out mere moments, already they felt as if they were pressing their luck.
"That's what I'm hoping... even though I built a time machine, I don't consciously know that much about the theories surrounding this... and it's not as if I could go to school for it," he said, adding the last part dryly. "Anyways, I can't really predict what will happen with this, to be honest. All I know is that the machine will work, and even that's not a perfect guarantee; nothing is." ![]() |
