Laynia had a small talk with Wolverine, and between them they seemed to come to some sort of agreement. Initially both parties looked tense and ready to move into action, but slowly, over the course of the conversation, the tension relaxed.

By now, everyone was up and finding themselves breakfast. Jean's main concern over the battle was how to keep the civilians safe. Leaving them behind would mean that the soldiers could well sneak round the back and catch them. This would of course result in the X-men having no choice but to surrender, not being able to risk the civilians' lives.

Scott sighed, brow still furrowed in conentration. "How else do we protect them?"
Darkstar sat, thinking, she could see that this meant a lot to Scott. He liked, she supposed, to get things right, to tie every end up neatly.

"I can protect them," Laynia offered. Concentrating she focused and manipulated the dark matter her mutant abilities allowed her to control into a shield around Jean. "Just like that."

Jean smiled, touching the shield and testing psychically to see if it was indeed inpenetratable. It was, and she said, "That's fantastic! We can put the civilians behind this and they'll be safe. So we don't have to worry about the army trying anything sneaky."
Paul said, "We shouldn't try and kill them, tho. After all, they're only misguided idiots following orders. We should try and neutralise without killing, if it's at all possible."
