"Did you tell her about- us?" Pyotr asked curiously and shyly, blushing a bit.

[Miranda_]

"As it happens, I did," Faina said with a smile. "She's really pleased for us."

"Um, tell her I say 'hi'," Pyotr said, flushing scarlet.

[Miranda_]

"Will do," Faina replied with a smile. She bent her head to the roll of parchment she was writing on.

Pyotr then went to take his bath, bringing the egg with him. He made sure he was clean first, then gulped in some air before ducking under the water and opening the egg.

His eyes widened when he hear not horrid screeching, but sweet music. He eventually had to come up for air, but then proceeded to listen to the verses several times through to memorize them.

Draven had made a similar discovery himself, within the hallowed confines of the prefect's bathroom. The bathroom had an Olympic pool sized bath, with taps that didn't just run out plain water, but every different kind of bubble, soap or gel that could be imagined. Only prefects had access, and there were separate bathrooms for the boys and for the girls.

The egg underwater did not sound like unearthly screeching at all; instead, it sounded like a chorus of voices singing a song. Draven had to duck his head several times before he'd memorised the song.

Come seek us where our voices sound,
We cannot sing above the ground,
And while you're searching ponder this;
We've taken what you'll sorely miss,
An hour long you'll have to look,
And to recover what we took,
But past an hour, the prospect's black,
Too late it's gone, it won't come back.

After memorizing his, Pyotr had written it down.

'Come seek us where our voices sound'? Definitely Merpeople, Pyotr thought. He jotted that down beside the first line. As for the rest... it sounds as if I have to go underwater somewhere to look for something, but there's a time-limit. Hmm...

Draven had thought for a few moments, before his eyes rested on the picture of the mermaid next to the bath. Of course... that was it. Merpeople; they resided in the lake. The second task was obviously to go into the lake and retrieve something the merpeople had taken, within the space of one hour.

Hurriedly, Draven got out of the bath, dried himself off and dressed. Carefully tucking the egg under one arm, he left the bathroom and rushed towards the library. There was still time before supper to try and find a spell or charm that would enable him to be able to breathe underwater...

While towelling of his hair, Pyotr's mind drifted back to Faina's essay... Human Transfig! Of course! It's supposed to be very complicated... is the library here still open?

The library generally stayed open til after supper; then, it was a given that the students would either go to bed or if older, study in their common rooms.
