The sobs became louder as the fire entrance was opened, and then suddenly they stopped, replaced by low growls. They weren't anywhere nearby; they still sounded far off.
"I can't find anybody, Shadow." Arik sat down on the staircase in the sorority house, rubbing his eyes. "It looks like you're the only survivor, college-wise." I KNOW THE PIECES FIT, CAUSE I WATCHED THEM FALL AWAY, MILDEWED AND SMOLDERING.

Cyril picked up a nearby vase and hurled it into the room beyond the fire exit, then slammed it shut, just to make sure it was safe.

Cyril toed the door open and stuck his head out. Upon realising there really wasn't anyone there, he went through the door and waited for Jem.

Jem followed Cyril, tensed and ready for anything to attack.
Shadow said to Arik, "Guess we'd better make this our base, then. We'll have to collect any survivors and bring them over here, and make sure this place is as tight as we can make it." |
