Toby didn't even resist, far too confused to understand what was going on.

Melody's grandmother chuckled. "Little Toby, the loa like you, but you cannot see any of this, duck. You will have to wait in the living room- but there are treats and some tea for you while you wait."
Melody was just as confused, possibly even more so; she knew her grandma had some power, but she was hinting at being far more powerful now than Melody ever realized. ![]() |

"..Um, well, tell them I'm glad they like me, 'cause they sound pretty cool, too...?" Toby squeezed Melody's hand and went to the living room to wait, nervously.

For the entire hour, Toby fidgeted on the couch, picked up a coffee table book to flip through for the remainder but didn't really read. This was absolutely nervewracking and he hated it. When they reappeared, he nearly leapt to his feet. "W-Well, um, h-how did it, uh, I mean." He rubbed his arm. "Did it go well?"

When Melody reappeared, there was a strange- sensation, as if the very air itself were charged. And Melody herself- well- while one eye was the normal dark brown, the other was a bright silver.
Melody's grandma smiled. "Now, now, don't be alarmed. She fine, I promise!" Melody herself nodded. "It's- weird, though," she said, hugging herself. She paused, knowing she had to explain what had happened to Toby, but wanting to find the words. "I- I guess you could say I'm giving one of the loa a- a sort of piggy-back ride; I'm still in control, but she's sort of hanging out in the back of my mind." She cleared her throat. "Um, her name is Ayezan and she- she's a lot like Kali, very motherly. She's been watching Amber, and hates to see a young girl tortured like that." Melody paused again and shifted her weight. "So, uh, she offered to come with me to do the spell, spoke to us through her little statue. But she needed a real host- normally, she's needed for short bursts of power, and she prefers people with experience, like grandma. But- she said that grandma isn't strong enough anymore, so that left me. "So- so she isn't taking control yet, but when we get to Apep, she will do the spell and bring the sort of power I couldn't get on my own, which will be needed because Apep is a god, not a human. Um, yeah..." ![]() |

"U-Um." Toby swallowed. "What will she do once she's done with her work? D-Does she need a way home after?" He thought a moment. "W-Will this hurt you at all?"
