"I'd like to learn," Felix offered.

"I want chocolate cake," Rian said. "I can read; I don't know how, guess I just taught myself."

"Well, that's good; even if you didn't, I would have taught you."

When the waitress returned, Ruby placed their orders for dessert.

"I could teach myself if I wanted to," Nelle said sounding unsure.

"I used to read the newspapers that Gwen put in my cot," Rian said. "I can't spell, tho."

"Well, we can work on your spelling while I work on Nelle's reading," Nikki said.

Nelle nodded, "how long will it take for the desert to come?"

"Probably only a few minutes; we ordered a lot of dessert," Ruby said.

Faolan could only read sketchy bits and pieces, but his mastery of the verbal side of the language usually made up for this. Either way, he knew that chocolate cake tasted delicious, and agreed with Rian.

"I want chocolate cake, too."
