"I just figured they, um, alpha-types would like it better if we brought some food back," Mina said.

"They won't like it if we get caught by human police. We'll have to be very careful."

"I know," Mina said. "I've gone foraging before."

[Miranda_]

"I haven't," Todd said. "They don't send me to forage, cuz I used to be a pet, I think. They probably think I'll mess it up."

[spirit_queen]

"Or get lost, or something, but now we can prove them wrong," Mina said.

[Miranda_]

"I don't get lost; I used to, but I know how to use my nose to find the way back."

[spirit_queen]

"Who knows why they woulnd't let you, then?" shrugged Mina. "Anyways, let's go."

[Miranda_]

Todd walked thru the park with Mina. "I don't want to seem as tho I'm insulting you, or anything," he said as he did so. "But you don't understand how it is, the way that most renegades feel about pets and guards. I mean, you really don't understand. They hate them cuz they live with humans and humans look after them."

"You're right, I don't understand, because it's stupid," Mina said. "I mean, it's not like you chose the life you had any more than they chose theirs, or I chose mine, right?"

[Miranda_]

"That's not exactly true," Todd replied. "Not always. Sometimes canines choose to become pets or guards. Also, you're forgetting that pets can run away from their owners if they want; I did, remember? However, I stayed with my first owner cuz I liked being looked after, given lots of nice food and allowed to do what I wantedd."
