Marius, of course, waited for the call telling him that they were within the city.

"No, you're not." Taka said, coming up beside him and helping him to where the rest of the vigilantes were.

The Eltos had waited for the last two, then said "When the humans are gone, we will go back. How many of your know your herbs and healing?"

Takai yipped and said, "Ido." she'd wanted to become the next nursemother, so she'd of course had to know how to tend wounds.

A few others replied, but there were only four healers in the pack who were still alive now.

"I know how to wrap cuts up. That's about all." Raoul nosed at the bullet wound in his leg; the bullet was still in it.

[Miranda_]

As soon as the vans were within the city, Janice called Marius to tell him.

It began to rain; the drops coming down fast and extinguishing the last of the fires.

Marius picked up immediately. "Good job on your success, Janice. Your reward will come with the money we get form those cubs."

Eltos nodded. "Any help at all will do. Let's move out, and get back now; the sooner we can help the wounded, the better." The Eltos did not mention the dead yet; that would come soon enough, and they didn't need reminders of the devastation the humans had left behind.

"Thank you very much," Janice said. "I'll see you once we get back."

The Antos said nothing. She was anxious about what they would find once they'd arrived at the thicket.

Raoul had a horrible sense of dread about going back to the thicket. If the cubs were gone...

The Eltos thought the same, but he also felt that he needed to be strong for his pack, and that order needed to be achieved before they could properly mourn their loss. That, and he didn't want any more deaths than there already were because of infection. He wordlessly began to limp for the thicket.

Takaia looked at Raoul once, insecurity written all over her face, then followed the Eltos.

Raoul gave a similar look to Takaia and followed behind.

When they reached the tcicket, the only one there was Fan, and she was obviously dead. She was even already cold.

The Antos let out a howl of anguish when she saw Fan's dead body. Every cub was gone, and so was Sharama.
