Antos thought for a moment, back to when she'd had the talk with Phelan, and nodded. "Yes; I would think that there's some past tragedy that he's covering up."

"A girl was pregnant with his kid, and she miscarried." Taka said sadly. "I heard it from the girl, not from him."

[Miranda_]

"He probably doesn't like to talk about it."

[spirit_queen]

"I don't blame him; it's a horrible thing for anyone to go through." Taka said.

[Miranda_]

"I expect that's why he acts the way he does; to cover up his feelings."

[spirit_queen]

Taka sighed. "Yeah... that, and he's probably one of those guys who considers any sort of real emotion a weakness."

[Miranda_]

"In any case, he's letting us stay, and I agreed to the conditions."

[spirit_queen]

"Well, that's good." Taka said. "I think I'll go out and try to find some food; I'm one of the few who got away with somewhat minor injuries, so I'd better do all that I can."

[Miranda_]

"I will, too. I lost an ear; that's nothing compared to what some of the other pack members suffered."

[spirit_queen]

"I just had a gash in my leg, but it's more or less healed, and I have a few scratches." Taka said.
