"Um, thanks," Silver said, nervously.

Blaze's father sighed. "It is nothing; actually, I am a bit of a hypocrite, for I used to be in the same situation, really; poor boy who loved the rich girl. But in getting what I wanted -the money to feel worthy of said rich girl- I apparently forgot my roots."

[Miranda_]

Silver didn't really know what to say to this; he didn't want to risk making Blaze's father angry, not when he was being reasonable.

"There's something else I will show you when we get to my car, but not before then, for it must remain an absolute secret," He added.

[Miranda_]

"I won't tell anyone," Silver said.

Blaze's father just nodded, then lead Silver out the door.

[Miranda_]

Silver followed, still nervous, but now curious as to what he'd be shown.

When they got to the car, Blaze's father got in as if everything were normal. Then, for some reason, he pulled a small bottle of hand sanitizer out of his pocket and put a small drop of the gel into his hands. He rubbed it in and let it dry.

Then he turned to face Silver, sighed, and used his middle finger to pull down the lower lid of his right eye while his index finger and thumb pulled out a contact. Blaze's father blinked several times and his eyes watered. After a moment, he opened both eyes wide and looked straight at silver; one black, one a warm, golden yellow, like hi daughter's. Mr. Chu then proceeded to take out the other black contact, revealing that both of his eyes were like Blaze's, and that he chose to hide that. "I dye my hair, too; naturally, I would look a lot like Blaze, and we have the same power. But, unlike my daughter, I have chosen to hide what I am."

Silver gasped; this was the last thing he had expected. He thought back to his own parents; his father's yellow eyes and his mother's silver hair. They might have been mutants too. Thinking of his parents like that made Silver feel a knot of misery inside and he blinked to try and hide that.

Mr. Chu quickly popped the contacts back in, once again looking like your average Chinese-American. "Blaze refuses to hide who she is, so I suppose she's stronger than I am, but coming here not knowing much English was bad enough; being pointed at because of my hair back when dying it whacky colors hadn't completely become common-place just ostracized me even more." He paused. "You don't try to disguise your odd coloring, either; perhaps that's what drew her to you."
