"Knuckles wouldn't hurt me or Tails!" Cream said again, throwing a weary look at Amy.

Charlie laughed after a minute. "No, no, I'm fine; I've taken worse than that, though it's been a while..."

Tails cleared his throat. "there's something you need to know about the 'robbery', Charlie; the Master Emerald is Knuckles' responsibility."

"what?"

"Knuckles' is it's guardian; all he wanted to do was get it back, though he didn't do a good job of it." Tails said.

At this time sonic woke with a start. He noticed he was no longer freezing, and so jumped out of his blanket hut and groggily made his way to the doorway, where he poked his head out to see what was going on.

Cream told him, "He's very protective of it, Charlie."

"Oh. I guess that's a bit different, then." Charlie said.

"Oh! Charlie, while you're here, do you have a couple of scr'ewdrivers I can borrow? i've been improvising, but it's hard doing repairs around the house without a decent scr'ewdriver." Tails said.

"Sure, sure. What kind would you like?"

"...one of every kind, actually." Tails said.

"Who are you?" Asked sonic bluntly, looking sleepy.

"A friend. I'm Charlie." Charlie said. "You're that speed demon... Sonic, right?"

"No crap, Sherlock. Not feeling especially speedy right now though, just tired! -.-"

[spirit_queen]

"So go lay down." Charlie said. "You sound like you might have a cold."

A short while later, Knuckles came downstairs along with Rouge.
