Streets Of Rage {RP}

1. This RP is rated M and is for experienced RPers only. Everyone should know who I mean by now; please don't bother asking me to join if you know you don't fit the criteria. This RP will contain mild violence so is not suitable for kids in any case.

2. All characters must be human, and abide by the main rules laid out in the stickies. Your characters can have certain special powers; for example, fire, water, psychic. However, using said power will drain your energy a little, so it would not be realistic for your character to use it all the time against enemies. Also, don't make them overpowered. Weapons can be carried by both sides. Again I say, no Mary Sues or Gary Stus.

3. The RP is based on the Streets Of Rage 1 and 2 games; however, none of the original characters are to be played. Please create your own character. If you need any information on the games, click here and here for details.

4. If you are going to have two characters, have one on each side or else it'll become one sided. If you work for the syndicate, you will not know who Mr X is. If you are on the good side, you will not be able to enlist anyone on the police force to help you, as the chief is in pay to Mr X. Characters must be at least 18.

5. Have a personal reason for joining whichever side, and for what you are doing. It is permitted to change sides later on in the RP. Both male and female characters can be on either side. Do not choose to play Mr X; he doesn't appear much in the RP for good reasons. Well, he wouldn't be unknown if he appeared all the time, now would he? XD

Once, the city was a quiet, peaceful place. Children happily played in the streets and the people went about their business; shopping, socialising and working. Each day, the sun dipped below the picturesq skyline to announce the start of the night and all the pubs, clubs and parties that went on in the city. True, there was some crime, but any large city has that to contend with and the police were not overstretched in the slightest. The police force consisted of one man at the top, who ran the force, with several units below him who were each deployed in bringing law and order to the city and ensuring that the ordinary people were able to go about their lives in peace. The mayor worked closely with the police chief, ensuring that the force had plenty of money and was able to run smoothly. It wasn't a perfect paradise, but it was normal, ordinary. Until...

One man saw this city as a place where he could rule supreme. His life was shrouded in mystery, and his real name was unknown, as was his true identity. He ran a criminal syndicate known only as "X", and went by the moniker "Mr X". Mr X worked stealthily to slowly, but surely, take over the city and make it his own. One day, the mayor vanished. The police were sure that it was a case of murder, but with no body to show for it and no evidence that anything had happened to the mayor at all, they were hampered in their investigation. X infiltrated the city's government, taking it over bit by bit like so much liquid poison. Soon, a new mayor was elected; but this new mayor was little more than a figurehead, a puppet who's strings were pulled by the mysterious Mr X. The police chief was enraged by this new development. He vowed to clean up the streets and get rid of the puppet mayor, but before he could do so, he also disappeared without trace. His ambitious deputy took over, but he lacked the social consience of his predecessor, and so when he was approached by emissaries of Mr X, offering a considerable bribe in order to turn a blind eye to the X syndicate's efforts to have total control of the city, he agreed.

Criminal elements swarmed out to reclaim the streets. Gangs roamed the streets, looting the shops in broad daylight, and bomb-wielding bikers made the roads deadly to travel at night. Cars were stolen, with freeloading thugs joyriding them thru the city and then setting them ablaze as the sun rose, tainting the sunrise with the flames and smoke from the burning cars. Any workplace that remained open had to pay X syndicate for protection, otherwise the owner of the business could arrive one morning to find that his livelihood had been looted and burned to the ground. Chaos reigned in the city, and no-one was safe. The police force were over worked and over stretched as they fought a losing battle to control the streets. All their efforts came to nothing though; any of the thugs who were arrested and who ended up in court were aquitted; the judge was also in the pay of Mr X and the jury members were either members of the syndicate, or just too frightened to make a stand. People who tried to do just that soon found that their family members paid the price; murders, rapes and kidnappings were rife.

One such kidnapping was of a boy named James. He worked at the courthouse and the day before his disappearance, he'd told his sister that there was something going on there that he had to investigate. He was suspicious of the way that papers were falsified, and that known criminals and gang members were being aquitted for terrible crimes, and even being paid compensation out of the city coffers. James' sister worked for the police, so he planned for them to work together to uncover the wrongdoing. The next day however, his apartment was ransacked and all trace of James had gone. There was nothing left in the apartment, save a photograph of James hanging from a wall in chains, which indicated that this was a kidnapping rather than a murder. The police chief refused to investigate, citing lack of money and threatening to disclipline any police officers who acted without his permission. Because of this order, several police officers quit the force.

Who are you in this story of a troubled city, trapped in the iron fist of the evil X syndicate, led by the mysterious Mr X? Perhaps you're a regular person who lived their normal life in the city before all the turmoil started, and you want peace to be restored. Maybe you're a member of the police force, who quit when one of their own was in trouble and the corrupt police chief refused to help. You could even be one of the thugs, trained fighters or assassins who work for the syndicate, and who revel in what they do and wish for the status quo to continue. Whoever you are, you have your own part to play on the ... Streets Of Rage.

(Posting in two bits due to the character limit.)

Name: Kasa Hinkley
Age: 21
Side Chosen: Good
Occupation: Ex police force
Power: Electricity
Personality: Kasa is idealistic, and very loyal to her friends. She can also be spiteful tho, and is manipulative at times.
Bio: Kasa joined the police force as a young idealist, wanting to do her very best for the community and to help make the city a safer place. She was appalled by the violence meted out by the syndicate, as well as by the public disappearences of the original mayor and police chief. Still, she stayed in the police force as she still was an idealist, believing that there was hope for the police to be able to overcome the forces of evil and make the city a better place all round. This hope was cruelly dashed by the kidnapping of her collegue's brother; Kasa was angry by the puppet police chief's refusal to detail any of the police to investigate the kidnapping and look for James. The very same day, Kasa quit the force and became a vigilante, along with other likeminded individuals.

Name: Raziel
Age: 19
Side Chosen: Bad
Occupation: Mercenary for hire
Power: Psychic
Personality: Very pric'kly and quick to anger. Raziel is also very single minded, and often won't listen to anyone else's version of events. He works for Mr X cuz the money is good.
Bio: Raziel was living in another city before all the trouble started in this city. He was working for a mobster at the time; however, when Mr X approached him thru one of his deputies and offered him a considerable amount of money to help direct the crime wave in the city that X had taken over, Raziel accepted and joined X as one of a group of trained fighters who are there to put down any rebellion and cut down vigilantes. He is in the job purely for the money, however he does like the power he weilds and the perks given. Raziel got into this line of work in order to escape his humble beginnings in the slums. He hates his mother, who's a prostitute, and feels he's left that life far behind. He doesn't know who his father is, and is indifferent to him save for the fact that he knows that his power was inherited from him.

"What do you mean, the police chief isn't going to act?" shouted Kasa at the deputy chief. She couldn't believe what she was hearing; surely, considering the circumstances, the police chief would investigate the kidnapping? After all, it was one of their own who'd had a relative kidnapped; someone they'd all worked alongside in the police force and who was like a member of their own family. Or so the force had been, til the city was bought out by Mr X and things started to go wrong. Kasa couldn't believe that her dream job had turned so foul in such a short space of time.

The deputy looked at Kasa apologetically. "I'm sorry, Hinkley, but the order stands. There simply isn't the funds to investigate, and the chief has forbidden any of the police force to take matters into their own hands and seek out the kidnappers themselves. Those are the orders, and we have to obey them, regardless of our personal feelings on this matter."

"In that case," Kasa yelled angrily, "I quit!" She took off her badge and flung it on the deputy's desk. "I joined the police to fight for what is right, and for justice; not to stand idly by while my friends suffer, and the city is overrun by evil." The deputy tried to make her reconsider, but Kasa was adamant. She walked out of the office, not looking back at the place where she'd worked for two years of her life.

Character Form

Name: Avani
Age: 22
Side Chosen: Bad
Occupation: Assassin
Power: Psionic blast
Personality: Avani is judgmental, rash, perfectionist, and doesn’t play well with others. The only good part to her is that she confident, motivated, and ambitious in her work.
Bio: Avani grew up apart from her family. Her father was always flying around for job purposes and her mother was always getting drunk or high, barely coming home. She was raised by her ‘nannies’, one after the other due to her high strung personality and her willingness to create havoc and pain. She was approached by one of Mr. X’s deputies to become a hired assassin, to kill anyone who came in the way of Mr. X’s plans for the future. She gladly accepted due to the fact that she was bored where she was and had no desire to go on to college or future education. That was when she was 18.

Name: Raine
Age: 23
Side Chosen: Good
Occupation: ex-Forensics in the police force.
Power: The ability to communicate with the dead.
Personality: Raine is high spirited, fun loving, and open-minded. She can become extremely unforgiving and rebellious as well as controlling, arrogant, and vain.
Bio: Raine went into the police force because she loved to give justice out to those who deserved it. She loved to make things right and punish the wrong-doers. As the violence in the city progressed and worsened, she found herself and her co-workers becoming stressed and un-happy. She felt less satisfied and almost like she was wasting her time. She kept going though because she needed the money and wanted to see if the crime would lessen up, as she hoped it would. When she found out about James, she was furious and quit on the spot, as she had had enough of the bull crap around at the station. She soon found out that she was not the only one who was furious and also became a vigilante.

Raine slammed her fist on her desk, making several things move and shake. “Are you serious! They aren’t going to do a thing!?” She yelled. She could not believe what she was hearing. One of their own had disappeared and there wasn’t a thing that any of them could do about it. That didn’t make any sense to her. Why wouldn’t they want to investigate? It didn’t make any sense to her.

Her friends nodded. “The Chief claims that there isn’t enough funds and crap to investigate.”

“So, we are just suppose to sit around on our and act like nothing happened? Hell no! If they aren’t going to do anything about it, then I will.”

“Raine, we can’t. Chief said no one is allowed to search or anything. We are not allowed to find James.”

“Are you kidding me! That…Grrrr!” She screamed. “Fine. You know what. I’ve had enough of this sh.t. I’m out. I quit. If they aren’t going to serve justice, then who will. I joined this place to bring justice on those who disobeyed, but how can I do that when our own people won’t give justice.” She shook her head. “Ya’ll can stay and be their little minions but I’m not.” She grabbed her stuff and left, all of her friends watching her go.

ooc: Hey, guys, if you are having trouble figuring out what power you want, I found this site: {Click}

spirit_queen 07-10-2009 04:49 PM

Ooc note: I was given permission by Miranda to play James' sister. Please don't whine about it if you wanted that position.

Also, I might add a character on the sindicate side later on... for now, this is all I can manage in the time I have to get on the computer.

Name: Thalia Zimmerman
Age: 23
Side Chosen: good
Occupation: ex-police woman
Power: she can manipulate air
Personality: Thalia is a tomboy who tends to be very blunt and has little skills in tact. She is strong-willed, can be quite fierce, and sticks to her moral ideals. She has a strong sense of duty.
Bio: Thalia grew up as the sort of girl who played football with the boys as opposed to Barbies with the girls. As she was growing up, she was often picked on because of who she was and how she acted. she'd ignore them at school, but at home it showed how much they were getting to her. James always supported her. She decided to become a police officer because she hoped somehow and in somehow she might be able to help someone in a similar but different way then ehr brother had always helped her; by supporting someone who needed it.

Thalis had argued for so long that by now her throat ached, but it was useless; the current shief wouldn't listen. She'd quit on the spot; if the police wouldn't help her, she'd look for James on her own, no matter the cost to herself.

Now she was standing outside the police building, smoking a cigarette and contemplating how she'd find her brother, where to start. the obvious answer was the apartment, but chanes were that James' place wouldn't be very promising; none of the kidnappings ever were. "Well, a girl's gotta start somewhere." Thalia muttered. suddenly sick of the the smoking and thinking for the millionth time that she ought to break that habbit, Thali dropped the cigarette and stomped it out. she took out her ponytail, then raked her fingers through her hair that was dyed and unnatural shade of fuscia before putting it back up.

She didn't think that maybe some of her friends from the force would quit, she didn't even think about what she'd do now that she was without a respectable job in a city now full of organized crime. All her thoughts were on James and James only; she vowed quietly to herself that she'd find him alive, or all those dirty, no-good scoundrels who worked for X would pay dearly.

Silent_Wolf 07-10-2009 05:10 PM

Name: Sinopa Thumper
Age: 29
Side Chosen: Good
Occupation: Barkeeper
Power: Superhuman strength (is however embarrassed by it and rarely uses it as it is.)
Personality: Very crude, doesn't blunt her words. Tends to come off as overbearingly rude. However, she listens to people's problems; running a bar for most of her adult life brings patience.
Bio: Sinopa grew up in the city and never dreamed it would fall as far as it had. However, by the time she'd firmly established her bar, everything had basically collapsed. She's used to riff-raff of all sorts in the pub and doesn't kick anybody out unless they're causing mischief. Which recently has become a problem, as there's fights every night and it's usually the same people. She's paid the syndicate to keep her place of business safe, but she doesn't know how much more she can take of having to deal with the goons causing havoc; she's waiting for the collectors to come around so she can ask if she can kick them out if they start causing damage. After all, she's paying to keep it protected; she wasn't paying to have them come in and trash the place.

Sinopa wiped down the countertop, scrubbing a water stain off; would it kill people to use coasters? She sighed and tossed the paper towels in the garbage can under the bar, lacing her fingers and stretching out. "Mmmph!" She winced as her arms cracked a bit and let them hang at her sides as she stared at the door. "..." She hadn't put the OPEN sign up yet, but usually most of her regulars came in at the regular time. She sighed again and grabbed a glass, absentmindedly rubbing it out despite it being clean; it was a bored habit. It didn't really waste time, but it made her stop feeling so agonizingly bored.

She twisted her eyebrow stud around a bit, wincing; this was definitely one of the more painful ones she'd done. She'd had her nose, bottom lip and ears done, but her eyebrow? Yeah, never doing THAT again.

Sarah_K_O_M 07-10-2009 07:15 PM

Name: Aldo Carias, formerly Hadrian Barken.
Age: 22
Side Chosen: Neutral, verging on good.
Occupation: Computer programmer.
Power: Technopathy/Cyb-rkinesis.
He’s a deadpan snarker and somewhat caustic. Quite surly, but he tries to be well-mannered, something which he places great importance on. He’s quite morose and has a taste for the drink.
Bio: Aldo was raised as Hadrian Barken. His father, Nicol, was one of the people who fought against Mr X and was as a result, killed. For his own safety Aldo and his now estranged sister were given new identities. Now he works for a company called Kelibant Tech and occasionally making his own indie videogames and selling them.

Name: Destiny Emerald
Age: 19
Side Chosen: Bad
Occupation: Scientist/Doctor
Power: Pyrokinesis and Hammerspace.
She’s incredibly cheerful and positive, always looking on the bright side of life. She loves hugging people and developing new and exciting ways to kill them. Has a deep love for all things scientific. She’s an Idiot savant, which is to say, a stupid genius.
Destiny grew up in a middle-class family with a white picket fence. Her father was a prominent scientist and she inherited his love of the sciences, quickly following in his footsteps. She showed promise from an early age but was disappointed at the fear mongering of the ‘Moralaties’ as she called them and by the much too stringent ethical standards she had to adhere to. When she was offered a chance to do any experiments she wanted she gladly accepted and is now studying what she calls the ‘P-gene’ on the behalf of Mr X, as well as biological weaponry to help him. She also provides free., no questions asked medical services.

Aldo pulled himself out of bed, grumbling. It wasn’t gone five o clock, but he couldn’t get back to sleep.

He lived in a bedsit apartment, an artsy little place with windows dominating the far wall and plenty of wallspace for pictures. He had them covered with movie and game posetrs and concept art from his own games.

He pulled the blanket up around him, shivering. Some bloody toss had thrown a brick thorough the window of the far right and the black bag taped over the hole did nothing to stop the cold.

He shuffled over to the kitchenette on the right and flicked on the kettle, he’d started leaving it full of water just for this eventuality, and started rooting through his press for a bag of coffee.
Across the room his television flickered into life and the lights overhead came on as well.

“…and another kidnapping has taken place, this time of one James….”

He growled. The television switched off.

“Bunch of mongrel b-stards.”
He flicked off the kettle and went to grab his clothes, dumping the blanket on his bed.

“I need a drink.”

Destiny danced around her lab. It was getting early, but she didn’t care. She’d spent the whole night researching and drinking coffee that was one part coffee grounds, one part water and two parts sugar. As a result she was buzzed beyond belief. She switched on the radio.

“IIiii! Can’t decide! Whthere you should live or die!” she sang along, twirling with one of the lab skeletons.

“Oh, you’ll probably go to Heaven! Please don’t hang your head and cry!” she let go of the skeleton, which clattered into a corner, and clapped her hands.

“Right! Let’s get to work! Or bed. Whatever. Whoo!"

Miranda_ 07-13-2009 02:23 PM

Kasa stomped out of the police building and, muttering to herself, leant against the wall. She couldn't believe what had just happened in there; true, the police force had been going downhill for some time, ever since the criminal syndicate had gotten a stranglehold on the city, but she hadn't expected that the chief would basically ignore a kidnapping.

Sarah_K_O_M 07-13-2009 02:38 PM

Aldo shuffled along the street. He was wearing scruffy jeans and a longsleeved t-shirt with a leather coat over it. There was a pair of silver dog tags around his neck.
There was a cigarette dangling from his lips and he had a distinctly grungy look about him.

spirit_queen 07-13-2009 04:06 PM

"Hey, Kasa." Thalia said. "You quit, too?"

Silent_Wolf 07-13-2009 04:08 PM

Sinopa flipped the 'closed' sign to 'open' and pulled a garbage bag outside, slinging it over her shoulder; it was just bottles and broken glasses. Gets heavier every night. -.-; She walked to the alley and lifted the lid on the dumpster, throwing the bag in.
