The City For Deviants {RP}
The City for Deviants ~

You are a savant. What is a savant, you ask? It is a person with extremely detailed knowledge in some specialized field. There aren't many of them, tho, but there is enough to be studied. There are many different fields, of course. Art, literature, science, math... but there is a consequence for your ability. You are misunderstood at home because no-one can relate to you. You have had enough of being ignored, because you know knowledge like this isn't common. The people you have told about your secret merely laugh and say you're insane. You can't tell anyone anymore, but the feelings begin to add on to another and another and eventually stack up. Who would want to live like a turtle stuck in it's shell?

You look in the morning paper one day and see an add for kids who think they need psychological therapy. You buy a ticket to Sacramento, California to join this meeting. When you reach the calling, you hear (# of kids) other kids chatting quietly in a corner. You join the circle and find out they have incredible knowledge in a specific field, much like you. A therapist walks in and talks for what seems like hours. Your chair is stiff, and you swear the clock is going five times slower than your watch. Was this worth your time? After the meeting, you join the kids again for a quick chat. It turns out that they have the same issue with no-one understanding them, and they're fed up as well. You quickly decide the hardest thing you've ever decided. It's time to leave home.

You and the kids run away to New York City aboard a freight train the next morning, a classic location for stow aways. But it's dark and dangerous. People even say a crime happens every 6 seconds. It is the time of night when the robbers and the Sweepers come out. The Sweepers are an organization run by the mayor to rid the city of a majority of the homeless. They are men with black suits and take you away to a place no-one has ever returned to discuss. It began in the early 2000s, when the homeless rate began to climb. They have dark vans along the streets at night, waiting for an unlucky homeless person to beg for change. But when the situation is more extreme, like for example there is a band of squatters at an abandoned building, they send a black truck full of the darkly dressed men to take control. They are feared all over the city, and you have to be cautious when walking around at night. That's why groups of homeless and run aways band together for survival.

The first week in New York was difficult. You realize how many people were living on the streets. Each person was homeless for a reason - whether it is they went bankrupt, committed a crime and escaped the police and ran or were disliked at home. But among these reasons were the more dangerous ones. Some of these men, women, and children had run for their lives from problems at home or at work that were too dangerous to for them to remain.

It's going to be hard to survive, but you and your friends have faith in each other. Perhaps you should find a sustainable job to afford food, or maybe the life of a theft is good for you. However you want to live is fine, just remember to stick together and avoid the Sweepers....

Fields for savants:

Maps - You are extremely well at maps and coordinating them. You can remember each location on a map after quickly looking at it.

Math - You can do extremely complicated math problems in your head.

Calender: You can recall a date in your life and important things that have happened on that date.

Aside from savants, you could be a Sweeper. (1-2 active playing Sweepers. The rest are NPCs)

When a person signs up for a field, I will remove it from the option list, so you'll have to choose from the remaining fields)

1) Please make sure you know how to RP. I can't express this enough...

2) Romance is encouraged, but please try not to overdo it.

3) No Mary Sues or Gary Stus. Please, please, none.

4) Don't make your character suddenly realize they can fly or read minds. It doesn't work that way.

5) You can write paragraphs if you would like, but it proffered you write 2-3 lines at the very most.

This story is basically a battle for survival on the streets in New York City and not to fall into the hands of the Sweepers.

Yup! Just about to do it.

Name: Virginia Payton
Age (Teens): 16
Field: Language

She loves music, and used to play the violin. She isn't too smart in the area of math, but tried her hardest in school. She was still bullied at the public school, but she spent most of her day in therapy. Nothing could remedy her tend to recluse, so they eventually gave up and left her to fend for herself. It got easier after practice against bullies, but still isn't too good around people.
Strengths (3 aside from your field): Patient, Listener, Clever
Weaknesses (3): Lazy, Has Mood-Swings, Weak
Picture (Optional):

~ Virginia Payton awoke in the North Street alley. She had been searching for food the previous night, and she was tired from all the running she had had to do. "I should have worked harder in gym class when I had it," she thought. There was a slant of light coming thru the tall building of both sides of her, and she got up slowly and walked into it, waking herself up. She reached her hands up and stretched. She heard all of the sounds of New York City: cars, horns, people. She couldn't imagined a better place to be. It had been a month since she arrived there, and she didn't plan on leaving anytime soon. She walked out into the actual street and sat on the bench closest to her. She pulled her knees up to her chin and looked at the nearest sign. It was an advertisement for McDonald's, and she tried to say in as many languages as she could remember to pass the time. After all, there wasn't school anymore, but she knew she had to remember her languages. After all, language was the reason she run from home.

Name: Nora Penvellyn
Age (Teens): 15
Field: Time
Bio: Nora never stayed at one school for much time. She was either kicked out for bullying other kids or either chose not to come. She did this as a protection against kids making fun of her. She really only spent time, a word she hated, reading. Loves to break rules.
Strengths (3 aside from your field): Creative and a good problem solver.
Weaknesses (3): Quick to judge, lazy, cocky and rude.
Appearance (subbed the in instead): Brown haired, blue eyed, and a medium build, only 5'4.

OOC: Savants also can be kids with Autism and have a special ability. ^^ I just wanted to point that out because I saw a T.V. show on it.

As the sun began to rise, Nora opened her eyes lazily. "Ugh, 8:23 already?" Nora said, wishing she could go back to sleep. She sighed and hesitantly got up from her home, made up of a old orange crate and a old peice of cardboard. Her appearance was rather ratty looking. She wore a torn jacket covered in mud, and dirty jeans with a ton of mud on them, not to mention her hair was a mess. She yawned and picked up her "purse", a old Wal-Mart bag that she used to pick up any food she found along the way. She walked slowly, not knowing where she was going, just somehow going, like some hidden force was moving her. She sat down at a bench, where, at least she guessed, another homeless person was sitting down. Nora sat down next to her not caring if she noticed her or not. Strangely, it seemed the girl was muttering something, but Nora couldn't understand it. A advertisment mas stuck underneath the chair leg of the bench and Nora picked it up. She glared at it sadly. "Stupid Spanish, wish I could know what it says."

Name: Harmony (Harm) Lynn Maeve
Age (Teens): 17
Field: Splinter
Bio: Harm was always alone. Never needed anybody, always felt safer alone. Her mother was always drunk or on a 'gig' but when she was home, and sober, it was like hell. Harm and her mother fought like crazy, cussing each other out and even getting into some physical fights, weapons at times. Since Harm was a strong sleeper at times, to wake her up, her mother would use various resources to wake her, causing scars. Harm was always degraded, from her teachers to her family. Finally, she decided that instead of letting it bother her, she would fight but now, her passion to fight was weakening. When she started to gain these 'improvements' she was bashed and beaten for it. She began to hide it, keep it to herself, but improve at the same time. She learned Math pretty quick, as that was her best subject at school but Time and Language were extremely hard but she could learn it, slowly.
Strengths (3 aside from your field): She taught herself how to defend herself, by any means-which meant with or without weapons, she has extreme determination and self control.
Weaknesses (3): Hatred-she can't stand most people, especially girls. Her lack of patience, she may be self controlled but that is only when she is fighting, other than that she as loose as a cannon, and her passion for animals. She doesn't care what danger it involves, she will try and save any animal.
Picture (Optional):Link

Harm was already up. She had emptied the contents of her bag, mainly weapons and a few pieces of clothes. She was sharpening some of her knives, a cold, passionless look in her eyes. She glanced up at the two just awakening. "Rise and shine, girls." She rolled her eyes. "I thought we said we would be up and moving by 6 am." In reality, that's what Harm had said. She had told the group, thinking that she was the leader, to be up by 6 am in time to leave. Obviously, she was the only person who had done so. "If you guys would start waking up on time, we might have been able to go get food down at the homeless shelter-but no, you lazy people wanted to sleep. Well, reality check, we're not at home anymore. So, stop thinking that you're still safe." She stood up, gathering her stuff.

Catlover642 04-14-2009 10:20 PM

OOC: I'm guessing she's by the bench where Booni's and my charrie is..XD I'm lost.

"You know, its actually 8:32," Nora corrected her.

LadyBast0911 04-15-2009 07:08 AM

ooc: Correct! Sorry for the confusion.

Sam rolled her eyes. "Doesn't matter! By the time we get to the shelter, so many people would have been there that we will be standing in line for nothing." Sam always had to be right and have the last word in. Always. xD

booni_monkey 04-15-2009 08:14 AM

Virginia could here them talking at the foot of the alley. "Morning. Ready to go to the shelter?" She began to pick up some of her belongings: a book, an old blanket, and some extra clothes she had brought to California. "I hope they're still open. We slept in...."

Catlover642 04-15-2009 05:02 PM

"Fine." Nora said, sighing. "I think they're still open." She said, dusting off her jeans.

booni_monkey 04-15-2009 05:08 PM

Virginia pulled out a small crumple map she had found and studied it. "I think we have to go south to reach 51st. It may take a while to get there, but all we need is a shower and some food."

LadyBast0911 04-15-2009 06:52 PM

Harm shrugged. "Sure, if you wanna take that way."
